Salut Gilles!

Hard to believe it's 29 yrs ago today that Villeneuve lost his life.

In fond memory of, for me, the racing-est racer of all time.................Salut Gilles!

I was only 4 years old when Gilles died.

However I think he had everything that made a great racing driver.

It is a shame he couldn't have lived longer.

Salut Gilles.

Without question the best racing driver there's ever been.

His son wasn't too shoddy either.

milowokie have to say thank you for posting that video

The song is Getting Away With it (All messed Up) by James. I have never heard it before but is stunning and perfect for that piece of footage

Yes, it really is - I'm going to dig my copy out to read this week, I think.

That is a great book, I have a copy here.

There is a newer book featuring more pictures available too, but I cannot remember the Author.

I've seen James live and I was unaware of that song.

A reminder that sometimes anger isn't worth it?

Did it get a mention on the BBC F1 coverage this weekend?

"I wuz there" for his first F1 race at Silverstone in 1977, in a McLaren. In practice he had a sudden spin at Club, the car rotating 360 degrees. Most drivers would stop, work out which way they were pointing, then go. We were all amazed when Villeneuve caught it while still moving, and continued.

I didn't realise those Renaults were twin turbos, unless that's Murray doing a Colemanball.

'79 Renaults had a good pair, a major reason for their improved reliability over the 'yellow kettles' of the previous couple of seasons.
