Castle Combe GTA Challenge - 12th April

For those of you who wanted to know-

Qualifying was superb, I took pole by 0.8 of a second with a 1m 21.7s lap

Race was going great, running second and catching leader (Chris Snowden in a 3.0 GTV6) when i got tagged hard by cu#t in a 3.0 Ford Capri on slicks going through Old Paddock, needless to say i went into the barrier...hard... so the car is taking a trip to the body shop!

Its what happens when you allow 'modern' cheap cars into a historic championship and let them run on hand cut slicks against cross ply tyred precious alfa's... they may drive like that in their Classic Sloon Register (banger racing) but you can't go driving like that against lovely old alfa's... they don't appreciate how on edge you are with cross plys and that any gentle nudge will send you off into the scenery! He only hit the last 3 inches of my right hand corner!!!
Old Paddock happens to be the 1 corner at Combe where it is impossible to overtake anyway... what a wa#ker!!!!

Will hopefully make Dijon though....not letting that pr#ck ruin my season!

They shouldn't even be in the race anyway.... since when is an 80's Ford part of a 60's and 70's Alfa series.... only to line the organisers back pocket.... he'll ruin that series if he is not careful, or turn it into a Capri/Dolomite/Escort bash up....what a shame!!

Fantastic about taking pole Max! Nightmare about the Capri, can anything be done on an official level? Or can i enter a cheap banger next year and plough you all off the track?
I'd be livid if that had happened to me, if i was commited to entering a classic Alfa in a classic Alfa race i'd certainly expect the rest of the drivers to afford the respect this class of racing deserves. Something you won't get from a tw*t in a banger!

Hope you make Dijon.

This is the problem, classic racing is extremely competitive, but what keeps it from a non-contact sport is people's love and respect for their own and other's metal. As soon as cars like Capri's enter, which can be re shelled for next to nothing, that respect disappears!

Looks like the car is going really well (or was) - hopefully nothing more than body work damage. You don't sound too bitter

I've never liked Capri's but they are still classed as a classic car but a bit odd to be running this class in the same race as classic Alfas.

Lack of driver control could be the problem - like you say a Ford is always easier to repair since there as so many parts available.

Good luck in the next race and rest of the season - plenty of photos are also required.
