Lotus to return to Formula One in 2010

Yes, as the title says........

Just found this.........

Lotus are to return to Formula 1 for the first time since 1994 after being granted the 13th slot on the grid from next season.

They will line up as one of four new teams for 2010 - alongside Campos Grand Prix, Manor and US F1.

Current team BMW Sauber was awarded "14th place" in the championship, meaning it will be entitled to fill any vacancy arising on the 2010 grid.

F1's governing body, the FIA, said it wants to expand the grid to 14 teams.

"The FIA believes that a good case can be made for expanding the grid to 14 teams," read an FIA statement released on Tuesday.

"It will be consulting urgently with the existing teams regarding the introduction of an appropriate rule change to expand the grid to 28 cars in time for the first Grand Prix in 2010."

While the FIA said it had received an "impressive application" from the BMW Sauber team, it added: "However, given that BMW has announced it will withdraw its support in 2010, there are still uncertainties regarding the future ownership of the team."

Great to see a famous name like Lotus back in F1 methinks !!!!!!!.......

Lotus in name only, has nothing at all to do with lotus cars, i was wondering how the hell they would be able to afford F1, seems some wannabe is using the team lotus name but has no connection at all to lotus.

No it most certainly is not connected with Lotus cars who are hoppng mad.

When Team Lotus folded in 1994, James Hunts brother David bought the rights to the name Team Lotus. It is he who has sold this right to the new team. The cars will initially be built in Norfolk. but not by Lotus, its another outfit who build the racing Astons currently, amongst other things. F1 activity is then supposed to migrate to Sepang at some time in the future.

Lotus Cars (Hethel, Norfolk) are wholly owned by Proton (Malaysia). They are mightily upset about the above developments and are sabre rattling and threatening writs over the use of the Lotus name.

In the Chapman days Team Lotus operated out of a place called Ketteringham Hall, not far from Hethel. My brother's neighbour was the groundsman there, so he used to get to hear about 'new stuff; before the outside world. Thats a long long time ago now though.
