Looky Looky Henry Surtees RIP

I was shocked to hear about this.

Surtees killed in Brands Hatch accident - Yahoo! Eurosport UK

Death and Injury was commonplace in his fathers era, you just don't expect things like this to happen nowadays.

RIP Henry, and my thoughts go to his family.

I was watching this live this afternoon, and it looked very serious when he was hit by the wheel, and then went straight on to hit the barrier, but I never expected to read this outcome tonight......

He was only 18 as well. Tragic Indeed......

aww this sucks

R.I.P Henry and my thoughts are with John and family

John was a legend facing dangers on both 2 and 4 wheels and winning the champs, and the only person still to do so, and Henry was a star in the making, sad sad day:disappointment:

wow, that is shocking. its amazing how much faith we put in modern safety equipment, only when something like this happens do we realise its still very dangerous.

John Surtees is a particular favorite of mine, having such a strong passion for both 2 and 4 wheels. as others have said, ironic he lived through such a dangerous era, but his son dies in the era of safety.

RIP Henry.

More of a 2 wheel fan than 4, but it is tragic and very saddening when this happens.

OMG - that's terrible, .

I can't quite take it in - only 2 weeks ago we were chatting to him at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, a bright and personable young lad with a promising future in motorsport ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with John and his family.

R.I.P. Henry, .

F2 do use tethers (among many other series), but in a heavy enough impact, they will break, just as we've seen bfore in F1 since the introduction.

Just saw the incident on youtube, it doesnt look much when you see it.
Maybe the wheel hitting him straight in the face was enough to break his neck?.
Wow.. god rest his soul.

I was watching this live on Eurosport this afternoon, and at first it just looked like another racing accident, but on replays you can see it was a LOT more serious, as the Car just kept going at full throttle after the wheel had hit him.......

Sad Day for Motorsport......

My boys do motorsport.

I worry for them every time they're out there.

Wouldn't want to stop them, but I pray I never have to suffer what his parents must be suffering.

I offer my sincere condolences to his family.

Henry Surtees.

Horrible news today that Henry Surtees (son of John) was killed today at the F2 racing at Brands.
Only 18 years old the kid had a great future ahead of him.
It appears he was knocked unconscious after being hit by a tyre flying off from another incident, and ran straight on into the barriers at Sheene.

There has been a little good natured banter about various racing series over the weekend on here, but something like this brings it home to you the risks all these guys take, whatever the type of racing involved, in all different versions of the sport we love.

My thoughts are with his family, friends and all those involved. RIP.
