Le Mans 2009 - Are you going ???

Lynn & I are going to go to Le Mans this year and we were wondering
if any others from AO are going?

An AO meet in France with copious amounts of beer sounds like a
great weekend to me

I am going, 8th year for me. Which camp site are you going to be in? I'll be with my farther in Blue Nord.

We should try and sort some kind of meet if we have plenty of us going.

Re: Le Mans 2009 - Are you going ???

We haven't booked yet. In previous years I've camped in Tertre Rouge
but I fancy a change

I was hoping this thread might encourage a meet over there

Blue Nord is good enough, but I can only compare it too the Annex on my own experiences. Can feel a little like the wild west on the sunday night though.

Tickets weren't that expensive in recent years, but the weak has put paid to that

Re: Le Mans 2009 - Are you going ???

fair point HST but even so, if a weekend ticket costs say 70 euros, around 60-70, that still isnt bad. when i was looking last year the tickets were 62 euros.

70 for a 24hr race doesnt seem bad to me in all honesty when you consider how ridiculously expensive it is to go and watch the dullest of all motorsports, F1. i seem to remember reading prices of 250+ for grandstand seats on race day only a few years back

im watching this, very interested.

Re: Le Mans 2009 - Are you going ???

Always wanted to, but my enthusiasm for 24 hour race was numbed somewhat by going to the Britcar thing last year.

Whole different ball game, obviously, and the person who I went with was an absolute dong. In fact, if anyone was around and awake at 3am around the back of the garages and saw an tall man having a go at a ****ed up smaller man for acting like a ****, that was me. The tall man, obviously.
I'm a race fan, and I respect everyone involved. Sadly, I'd probably only be able to go with people that aren't so into it; probably the same one who MUST have his units, and then bugger off, create havoc in the media room at Silverstone, knick beer out of the back of the garages (because a technician guy "was rude to him" Not only both a big and clever response, the poor guy had probably been awake for 30 hours already...).
After all that, he was perplexed as to why I was so ****ed off with him after he'd kicked me awake.
My dad's too old and I'm too lame to go on me tod. Shame.

Sorry, that's gone off on a tangent. Apologies.

I'm going again this year.
Be in Beausejour because I booked it to late for any of the good sites.
Not in the GTV either as there are four of us going.
Be driving a Renault Laguna Estate - Diesel. All the way there ..... Oh Joy!

There has been an increase in the number of max-power readers over the past few years. Stopping exotica in the street and demanding they do burn outs and drag race's. I have heard of several cars being damaged when the driver has refused (Astons, Ferrari's etc). Only a few sad individuals, but still totaly uneeded.

Quite a few threads about it on Pistonheads and Beermountain.

I agree with that. Normally on the friday night as people are arriving to the camp sites. On the main road in. Used to be good but has got a little out of control in recent years.
I advise locking your car doors on the way in or get water bombed... or worse

Re: Le Mans 2009 - Are you going ???

I wasn't aware of that, I've not been since 2000 so it must hav started in the time I've been away. Sad to hear

I remember in 2000 watching Corvette owners doing monster burnouts in their owners club enclosure. Fantastic machines, and great to watch, with a decent crowd of admirers, with no trouble whatsoever.

Re: Le Mans 2009 - Are you going ???

I'll be there again this year with the TVRCC - work allowing
Every petrolhead should go to Le Mans at least once in their life, the drive down there is worth it alone (as is the noise the Corvettes make)

I find the Panoz beats the Vette for rumble factor.

Defo does, but the Vette still makes a hearty noise. Was nice to hear after years and years of virtually nothing but Vipers

Looking forward to hearing the aston engines in LMP1. The Panoz definately won in the noise stakes. Deisels need banning because they dont make any noise!

Re: Le Mans 2009 - Are you going ???

Woohoo - our confirmation for passes came through today

Ferry booked, camping organised, just need to work out whether we can get the tent into the spider anywhere

I guess we can leave Gibbo's stuff behind if we're struggling to fit everything in

Re: Le Mans 2009 - Are you going ???

Latest copy of EVO has an offer on I think camping in teh grounds of some french chateau (or was that pistonheads or the TVRCC magazine, can;t remeber)

Looked like could eb fun, my problem is that I don;t drink and it seems the Le Mans thing always turns into a huge **** up which puts me off quite a lot
