GTA Meet Brands Hatch Sunday 23/09/07

I talked to a few guys at Spring Alfa Day & the Bristol fest about a GTA meet for this year, so how about it?
WTCC
Brands Hatch Meet Sunday 23/09 2007

22/09 Free Practice 1 (CET) 09:00
22/09 Free Practice 2 (CET) 12:00
22/09 Qualifying (CET) 15:00
23/09 Warm Up (CET) 09:00
23/09 Race 1 (CET) 14:30
23/09 Race 2 (CET) 15:30

We could have a meet at a pub/carpark? close to the circuit,( any ideas guys?) then drive to the circuit together in convoy.

This is probably the last time we will get the chance to see the Alfa GTA World Touring Cars in action.
I took my son to see them in 2005 & had a great time going into the pits garage & meeting the drivers, something we will always remember.
We also saw the Maserati MC12 race cars in action with the Aston Martin DB9 race cars, this was a 4h race in the morning, not sure what will be the support race for the WTCC this year?

I hope this works, it could be a lot of fun.

Stu,
Think we might be out of our depth against WTCC cars!

LOL, it could be a lot of fun all driving up to Brands together, i followed one of the 155 boys up to SAD this year and they all met in the same place, about 15-20 155 cars all going to the same event looked & was a lot of fun, this is the sort of thing that would be good to do from time to time for the big Alfa events etc?
But it has to start somewhere, what you think?

This sounds fantastic. I am close to brands hatch and go there often, I will have a think about local pubs as I go drinking there some times. There are some really nice country pubs, but they do get busy and parking can be a bit of a problem. There is a Harvester pub/restaurant and a nice pub called the Fighting *****, both by the river and perfect on a good day.

There's also The Bull and the Chequers.

I think the Harvester is called the Red Lion.

Sorry to but in.

Yep you are right. Is that the chequers, off of parsonage lane? never been there but it is one of the closest pubs to my parents!

The Chequers is the smallish pub on the corner with a good selection of ales (wel it used to ayway)

The Bull is left, over the little bridge on the right hand side. they've got a reasonable car park, but the Red Lion probably has the most car park space around there.

I'd potentially be interested. I'd like to see the WTCC cars and I'm sure my 11 year old son will enjoy it.

Cheers,

Nigel

Looks great, I think we'll have to put it in the diary. I promised to take him to a motorsport event this year, so this could be the one....

And I think the big kid will love it.

Cheers,

Nigel

No problem I will do some extensive drinking... i mean research into which pub would be good. Seriously I will check closer to the date, there are some really nice pubs close to the track as mentioned but they can get very busy on a nice day.

Cheers, we all hear about what the GTA guys have done to the bella's, it would be great to see them in the flesh, all the guys with standard GTA's can see & hear which way they want to go with mod's etc, i can see me & my lad camping out or B&B for the weekend, we did that in 2005 when i had my 2.5 156, loved it.

Stu,
reading the thread, bit confused as to what the plan is for the day:
Is it to meet in a pub and discuss / look at / drive GTA's to compare the best mods? (I am up for that!)
Is it to park up in a field and watch WTCC cars, then drive on to a nose-to -tail M25? (I am not up for that!)
Apologies if I have not understood what is planned.

My understanding is to meet and have a chat at a pub near by and then head to the track for the race at 14:30.

To be honest, I have been going to Brands for years and it used to be a nightmare, but they have done a fantastic job of late to sort out the traffic problems. I have been to to big races in the last year, DTM and BTCC and while it was busy, getting in and out was no problem.

And sorry but no one is driving my car but me

Re: GTA Meet Brands Hatch Sunday 23/09/07

Eddie,
Thanks for the clarification.
Pleased to hear Brands have now sorted the traffic issues - I always avoid the area on big racedays after a nightmare there many years ago (back in their F1 days).
Not sure how much GTA fun there is to be had on busy roads?

Unless mods are demonstrated by giving pax rides to gain an impression of the improvement, simply discussing them is all a bit superficial.
I have tried to explain in other threads what difference (for instance) a set of coil-overs makes to the car, however the only real way to understand the difference is to feel it.

LOL, non unfortunately. One way they have sorted the problems is lots of police! So take care all that come along.

Re: GTA Meet Brands Hatch Sunday 23/09/07

How dose this sound.
Meet at a location (pub) about 10am, lots of time then to talk & pax rides, i would love to see & feel the difference coil-overs make to a GTA, it's the same for exhaust sound etc.
Have some food then go to brands for the racing, this is optional, the meet it self is the important thing.
