All-Ireland Alfa Romeo and NIIMC Meet

Further to the posts on the following thread

https://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=42633

and Glenda's contact with the NIIMC (Northern Ireland Italian Motor Club) http://pub44.bravenet.com/forum/3727288057/show/671273

would anyone else be interested in a joint event somewhere on the Island

They are looking at suggestions on location and dates to put forward at their next meeting which looks to be on the 7th February 2006

I've already confirmed my interest!!

Put my name down!
Don't let it conflict with Le Mans though!

Re: All-Ireland Alfa Romeo and NIIMC Meet

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on here in a while. "I just kind of wandered off"
Our first meeting of the year is on the first Tuesday of Feb at the Tidy Duffer Revarnet at 7.45 pm. If any of you can make it you would be made most welcome.

As Glenda says we will then be working on what events we are going to attend throughout the year. I see no reason at all why we can't get something arranged. And it won't clash with Le Mans or The Goodwood Festival (I'm off to it). We do have 2 events up here were we bring all the members so it's possible if anyone wants they could join us there. Dates have yet to be confirmed yet though.
Please do drop in on our site anytime for a bit of craic and to keep up with what we're up to.

"Oh and I'll try and not wander off to far this time".

I haven't posted here since I sold my Alfa, but I'd be up for it in one of my Fiats.

Re: All-Ireland Alfa Romeo and NIIMC Meet

A proposal would be to drive to Blessington through Sally Gap, then onto Kildare or so for a meal/meet...
The roads up there in Sally Gap are quite good... shouldn't be an issue for any cars.

Ox Mountains? (The Magic Road...?)
Road from Westport to Ballina is very poor, real suspension breaker.
It's also 3.30hrs from Dublin.

Re: All-Ireland Alfa Romeo and NIIMC Meet

I'm easy enough about the Location - somewhere scenic would be nice! :-)

I like McGuinns idea of maybe having a designated "scenic route" to wherever we end up depending on how far we have to go.

@McGuinn "Sally Gap roads are good" - gulp
Absolutely beautiful for sure, but I would be in "sump preservation mode" on them - that said its no hardship just cruising along such a beautiful spot.

Now the nearby "Wicklow gap" roads from Glendalough to Blessington are stunning and flowing and (cough), surfaced

Cheers,
TB

I like the sound of GLENDAlough

All joking aside though gents, my geography is appalling, so feel free to make me look very silly but please remember that us Northerners have approx. a 3 hr drive to get anywhere near Dublin, so can we stick to a meet half way?

Re: All-Ireland Alfa Romeo and NIIMC Meet

may i suggest athlone, perhaps the http://www.hodsonbayhotel.com/, which i know has a large car park, as a final destination

its dead centre for those up north, down south, east and west?!?!?

anyone know of any scenic routes or half decent driving roads?

i know the road from nenagh to birr is reasonably good and Trailbraker your sump will remain intact!

anyone know this area better than moi?

Re: All-Ireland Alfa Romeo and NIIMC Meet

Hi guys

Count me in too. There's nothing better than a good long drive on a nice Irish summer's day. I'll drive anywhere, within reason, so I'm happy to leave it up to you guys who have better knowledge of the best roads "down south".

Re: All-Ireland Alfa Romeo and NIIMC Meet

If the majority of the attendees will be from the North which I guess is likely given the club Glenda is from - I think some concession to a slightly more northerly destination is fair enough.

Personally I would travel anywhere but thats easy for me to say being in Dublin!
Matt and AlfaGuy have a fair old trek I suppose

At least you have fast car Matt,
and hopefully AlfaGuy is a morning person if he is taking the Sud from Kerry

You never know - this could yet snowball into the must attend event of the year with Alfisti popping out of everywhere!

I'm not a doctor - but I really do recommend braking later

Re: All-Ireland Alfa Romeo and NIIMC Meet

..post moved from the general forum;

"..yeah i'd be all for doing something in ireland, though it's looking like i'd have to bring the TB on a trailer

the irish section of the aroc might have something planned as well.. maybe an all ireland italian car day is on the cards then..."

also, i think wicklow is out, nice as it is.. would be plain bad manners to drag anyone who's come all the way from the noth across the M50!

we went on the aroc trip to west cork recently.. some of the roads were very well chosen cos you could really enjoy the car without being dangerous or over the speed limit.. might be a consideration if they actually get these privatised speed cameras on the go..

Re: All-Ireland Alfa Romeo and NIIMC Meet

iv'e seen quite a few down in cork, na 16v red coupe and a na 20v broom yellow coupe in and around douglas / rochestown

also was chatting to a fella in a silver 20vt, discussing my gta and he's coupe

which brings me nicely to your comment on your forum ""I agree Ally!!! and we'll have the best looking and probably the fastest cars too!!""

should have a fantastic diverse range of cars in this day actually goes ahead!!
