Re: Classics on the common 27-7-05

Mr Torch is coming with the East Anglia AROC section.Anyone else?
This is a great meet for sheer diversity of cars.Last year there were Italian Supercars,Kits,Muscle cars,Rods, and all manner of classics.
Its a very informal meet, and in close proximity to at least half a dozen watering holes.
If you want to show your car get in early!

Well one guy drove all the way from Switzerland ............................

But our event of the year was an impromptu mid-week pub meet that started 10 years ago with 25 cars and blossomed to this year’s remarkable 1800-plus classics crammed on to Harpenden Common. Such is the reputation of this unpromoted affair that Swiss enthusiast Werner Maurer drove his 1945 Standard Flying 8 across Europe for this magical Summer evening – his fourth visit.

Yes it sure was wet

But still a great evening - I took a lot of pix and I apologise if I seem to have hijacked your thread - but I'll post some of them here

Re: Classics on the common 27-7-05

Good pics GJ.Just aswell cause I forgot my camera. Its not every day you see 3 Countachs or 12 DeLoreans in a row.
Did you see the 6.5 litre Ultima Can Am?
Some amazing cars there, even if the turnout was less than usual due to the weather.
Star of the show had to be the chocolate brown Allegro estate!

Yes the Allegro was "stunning" - I think that's the right word

Brown just seemed the right colour
and here it is although not the estate.... yes there were TWO there

Aah, the Allegro. What fond memories. My wife had one when I met her (Brown too!). It was a laugh to drive and pretty comfy too. The ride got a bit too bouncy when the floor started to flex when it detached itself from the sills. Still, the last MOT I put it through it needed a couple of patches underneath and a new exhaust. £20 for the welding and £9 for a full exhaust!
