AROC Malaysia & Singapore reaches Kunming,China

Hi all just want to share the pictures from AROC MY & Singapore who recently started a historic overland journey to Kunming , China . The participants have safely reached Kunming and will begin the journey back in 2 days time .

Here's the brief report :

Day 1
10 cars flagged off from SDAC at 5:30pm. 9 cars reached the border and check in a Hotel in Danok Thailand at 11:00pm. Ron Lim's car AR155 has alternator problem and decided to leave behind for towing back to KL. The problem occurs just before the expedition group reach Gng Semanggol.

Day 2:
Convoy started 2nd day from Danok at 9:30am. No problem so far during Day 2 and reach a resort hotel in Bang Saphan at 5:30pm. The convoy lead by "Kun Tawee" to the Bansaithong Resort hotel near Bang Saphan

Day 3:
Convoy continued journey at 1:30pm from Bansaithong Resort heading to Chiang Rai. This was a very hectic journey as the convoy need to cover over 1300km in 1 day. Traffic from Samut Songkram approaching Bangkok was pretty bad. Its took 3 hrs to cross Bangkok. Reached Nakhon Sawan at 11:00pm and stopped for 5 hrs. Continued journey to Chiang Rai at 6:00am and meet members from Thai Club along the way at junction to Chiang Mai. Convoy reached Chiang Rai at 4:00pm.

Day 4:
Journey from Chiang Rai to Chiang Khong took 1 hr via small roads through kampong and small town. Reached Chiang Khong at 10:00am and met our tour guide at Chiang Khong Port. At this point expedition members realize that to cross Mekong river was very challenging. The water level in Mekong River was low and a steep gradient towards the ferry had made tough time for driver to drive their car on ferry. It took 2 hrs to load all cars into the ferry. Finally all cars landed on Lao soil after 30 min on ferry. Convoy, lead by Tour Guide and Police continued journey to Boten. Road condition was quite bad at some section. Driving during rainy day via narrow and winding road having steep gradient was very challenging and at this point in time its look like rally adventure to all expedition members. Convoy stop for rest at Luang Namtha at 5:30pm. Temp was below 15 degree and engine temp was running below 90 degree. Received call from China Tour Agent that border will close at 5:30pm and advised convoy to overnight in Boten. This was an unscheduled stop over as the original stop over was in Mengla in China which is another 1hr 30min drive from here. Finally reached Boten at 7:00pm and check in a hotel in Bothen.

Day 5:
Continued journey at 7:30am and temp was below 10 degree. China Lao border check point was 15 min drive from hotel. Cleared Lao Custom and Immigration Check point. Convoy warmly received by our appointed China Guide at China Check Point, and all expedition members looked so excited as we all cross China border at 11am. Received news that Kunming was snowing yesterday. Convoy headed to Mengla for another 40 min drive from the border to carry out the vehicle inspection and to prepare chinese driving license. Continued journey from here at 3:00pm. Distance from here to Kunming is 650km and scheduled to arrive in Kunming at 1am Thursday morning. Arrived Puer at 6:00pm. Stretch from Puer to Huang Zhuang was very challenging. The road gradient is generally more than 10% and this area surrounded by mountain with tea trees cover the landscape. Generally, average speed limit was only 30km/hr to cover this section before the convoy continued the journey via expressway. Finally, cars and expedition members arrived in Kunming at 3:00am Thursday morning which was 6 hours behind the schedule arrival. A spirit of camarederi and cuore sportivo has made AROC reached Kunming. Another historic journey and a new milestone to Aroc History.

Day 6:
A tour to Kunming City by coach at 1:00pm, Free & Easy thereafter.

Day 7:
Expedition to the Red Earth, 200km North East of Kunming started as early as 8:00am. The convoy heading to Dongshuan, a town famous with Copper Mining which is located in a valley, 50km from the Red Earth. Convoy reached Donshuan at 11:00 and stop for lunch before continued to the Red Earth. Reached Red Earth at 2:00pm which is located on top of the mountain; claimed to be part of the Himalaya Range. The expedition members stopped at a few locations for capturing the beautiful landscape. Returned back to Kunming at 4:30pm for the official dinner mainly to celebrate the historic milestone created by Aroc members from Malaysia & Singapore.

Tomorrow, Aroc expedition will continue the journey to Jingshui, a town located located south east of Kunming..... .

Pascs...the convoy is currently on the way back from Kunming ...they should be crossing over the China border today and towards Laos . They should reach Chiang Mai, Thailand tomorrow morning .At least in Chiang Mai there is a Alfa Romeo Service Center where they can repair their bella's if required .
