I can't promise to be in Keswick that weekend, but will I will try.
I will be there the first week in April, on hoiday.
May I recomend some places to get refreshments!!!!
1/ The Dog and Gun - top of the market square on the right. It's a Theakstons pub. Exellent food, can get very packed.
2/ Sweenys - follow the road past the Dog and Gun for 50m, it's on the right hand side. Exellent food.
3/ All the other pubs - I have drunk in them all, Got !!!!ssshed in a most over the years.
Saturday is market day in Keswick so it can be busy all day even out of season
When people are driving up from down south the most direct route would be upto Penrith then down the A66, but the best way ( in my opinion ) for veiws and roads would be to come off at Kendal and go through Windermere and Ambleside then blast up the main drag to Keswick, seeing how many cars you can pass on the climb upto Thirlmere. There is a short piece of duel carrageway at the top. Take care and lose some speed because the road dips and gets a bit twisty before it opens up again once past the resevoir. The dry stone walls on each side of the road will chew you up !!!!!!!. I have seen it happen.
