ITALIAN JOB 2010 - VACANCY
Due to unforeseen circumstances, one of our select little band of intrepid European expeditionists has had to withdraw from our trip to Milan for the centenary celebrations. As a result, we can now offer a place for 1 car + 2 occupants to join us on this 'trip of a lifetime'. There is also the possibility for a third person to join us but they would have to be female and not mind sharing (with Firecracker - Patricia).
For those of you familiar with our last trip (AO European Run 2009), you'll know what to expect - some challenging driving routes intermixed with various 'cultural' visits which can range from cathedrals to vineyards. If you haven't seen them before, or want a quick reminder, the photos are here : https://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/meets...un-2009-a.html

The finer details of this latest trip are still being finalised but the outline itinerary is :
Saturday 19 June
: Depart Folkestone early morning by Eurotunnel and head for lunch in Troyes. Afternoon free to explore this historic city then a short drive to our overnight stop.
Sunday 20 June
: Depart Troyes to an overnight stop near Chamonix.
Monday 21 June
: Depart Chamonix via Mont Blanc tunnel, (if time allows, we will make a diversion to take in one of the mountain roads used as a location in the original Italian Job film) for a late afternoon arrival at our 'base' for the week : Casa amici del Bosco - Home
(located here : Via dei Colli 14, 24030 Mapello - Google Maps
) Close enough to Milan when we want to visit and far enough away when we want some peace and quiet. The rate for the villa is 350€ per double/twin room for the week + a refundable security deposit of 75€ per room - so a lot cheaper than a hotel even when the extra travel costs are factored in (Milan is less than 1 hour away)
During the week, there will be a day trip to tackle the Stelvio (got to be done, hasn't it?) and also one to the vineyard that produces the Alfa Romeo wine. The rest is still in 'the melting pot' until the full official programme is published but should allow time to explore Milan away from the Alfa events and some R & R time in the Italian Lakes.
Monday 28 June
Depart Mapello via several Swiss passes to an overnight stop in Luzern.
Tuesday 29 June
: Depart Luzern to an overnight stop in or around Colmar (hopefully via the Schlumpf Collection in Mulhouse - Cité de l'Automobile - Car Museum, Alsace France
Wednesday 30 June
: Morning to explore the ancient centre of Colmar before departing through the vineyards of Alsace for an overnight stop back near Troyes.
Thursday 01 July
: Depart Troyes for Calais, via the hypermarkets, for a late afternoon Eurotunnel crossing back to Folkestone.
The return is deliberately timed to allow onward travel to the Goodwood Festival of Speed which commences on Friday 02 July.
We are trying to shy away from the stereo-typical (if you've seen one, you've seen them all) 'motel' type accommodation en-route, so our overnight stops will be quite varied : everything from a trout farm to a converted jail.
