insurance excess

Can somebody explain why with a car of say an estimated value of £800-1000 the compulsory excess and voluntary excess should be £650 on a "fully comprehensive" policy. I understand the third party risk factor but being 50 with a clean licence and 10 year no claims added to, the same car for 12 years and same address for 8 years I should be practically fully responsible for the loss of my car should the worst happen. How does this cover my loss?
What is the meaning of the "fully comprehensive cover" in this equation

Hi,
Just to let you know that most of our insurance schemes will allow additional discounts if you take additional voluntary excesses. These can be anything up to about £750, however normally there are caps in place depending on vehicle values especially when it involves lower values cars.

Dan.

The compulsory excess will probably be quite low, it's the voluntary excess that will have made the total daft. If you reduce your voluntary excess (as is your right) it'll obviously tip the balance back in your favour.

Hi,
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. We have a number of specialist schemes that cater for young drivers. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.
Regards,
Dan.
