Help Please help Alfa Romeo 156 airbag ecu

Hi

I took my car to a local garage for an MOT and was told that the Airbag ecu unit needed replacing on my Alfa Romeo 156 T Spark Veloce.

They quoted me £815 for installing new one

Anyone can shed a light on this if this is about right or am I being taken for a ride?

I checked on ebay and the prices on there for a second hand one is around £45-100?

Please let me know soon so I can make my mind up.

Thanks

What's the number on your airbag Ecu. I'll see if I've got a used one in stock

Hey mate, just called the garage and they can't tell me the number on the airbag because they only used the diagnostics tool which is showing P0001, apparently meaning airbag ecu is faulty!

So much palaver over an airbag!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Want my beloved blue Alfa back

Might tell the garage tomorrow. Part of me now thinking should've gone to Alfa specialist.

"Offside Stop Lamp" - most likely a faulty bulb - pennies.
"Restraint system warning lamp" - that's the airbag issue - could just need the system resetting, could need a replacement ECU - £25 - £40 or so second-hand.
"Nearside read suspension arm rubber bush bonding" - depends which arm, but secondhand maybe £15 - £25.
"Offside rear brake cable" - new - about £15 or less.
"Offside rear parking brake" - might just need cleaning/ lubricating, might need a caliper. Anywhere between £10 for a few minutes work to £50+ for a caliper.

Very vague pricing - but then the question was very vague !

rgwm, cheers for the heads up. Absolutely what I was hoping for as it gives me a rough guide.

I take it total for the whole job lot should be around sub £300?

PS: Agree with your status lol

Should have said, BTW, if the handbrake cable is broken / seized, just replacing that might sort the parking brake issue....

Should certainly be less than £300 all in, inmy opinion, but of course depends on labour rates, so get a quote before anyone starts, or do (most of it? ) yourself......
