Is this a scam ?

I put my current car ('05 Alfa 147 with 41k miles) on Autotrader for £2195
2 days later I get text message on my mobile saying "Alfa Rome.. still 4 sale? I can offer £2045 & collect tomorrow! Visit www.services-autotrader.com and enter this Purchase Id"

Clearly this site is nothing to do with Autotrader.co.uk
Do I smell a Scam ??

Ps Why can I not advertise on here, simply beacuse I dont have 10 posts ?

Those particular companies are a scam. I know of a few people who have been caught.

You pay the money to go on the database etc and then you hear nothing.

Tend to agree, but their website says they
"Book an appointment for us to inspect, pay and collect your car"
"Our car trader will pay you cash and collect your car"

Still smells bad

Roughly translated, they come and look at the car then offer you peanuts for it, in the hope you are desperate to sell and are willing to go for it.

Servicesautotrader.com is not a website that is held or owned by auto trader. This is known as 'passing off', call your third rate scamming website something close to a brand people recognise.

These people are parasitic filth, on a par with those 'this is your mobile phone company' calls.

I, too, would be very wary of this type of *******. When selling our daughter's Mini we encountered a lot of "overseas" buyers claiming to be in position to buy car………… send us your bank details so we can make payment…….. etc. How stupid do these people think we are???

Good luck with the sale - patience brought us a proper buyer - and at full asking price! Result!

How does someone clean you out with just your bank details? I mean... when you send someone a cheque (remember them? ) you would effectively do just that... but I never got cleaned out as a result. How's it done?

They don't, they just ask for your bank details as a way of testing how easy you will be to scam in the future. If you are prepared to hand out personal information like that then thy know you are likely to be an easy target.
