Interesting. An attractive concept and more questions posed than insightful answers or clear direction.

I think it shows that the brand is on the rise with some exciting new products possible. That can only be a good thing

I'd love to see it happen but I'm an optimist that's holding out for a mint Busso powered V6 GT to keep me holding on to Alfa ownership, I doubt I'll be able to afford a new 4C

Yup, how many times do we see this kind of story......

Interesting if true, I'd certainly be in the market for an Alfa 6C coupe. But I will believe it when I see it!!

If the 4c is £50+k, this will be way too expensive to be a Brera replacement

Maserati territory......and I'd take a Trident over a Serpent.

Sadly I suspect the following is a more accurate description of whats going on:

"Alfa Romeo RWD Rumor Only Shows that No Work Has Been Done on New Models"

Maybe not. The 4C is so expensive because it is handbuilt (take a look at the production vids). The Maser Ghibli with the V6 is £52K, the sporty S is £63K. So IF Fiat do this, logically they will try to pitch it at around £40K I would imagine, they have already talked about Maser-based Alfas coming in under the Maser level. If it is too close to the Maser in price it will cause confusion.

I was tempted by the new Ghibli but the S is just too expensive and the normal V6 has a lower power to weight than my tuned GTA. And I couldn't see me taking it on track either, I think that's where an Alfa would be preferable as a more sporty car. If Alfa got it right and pitched it around £40K, I would take an Alfa over a Trident.....

And that's the only thing we can say. The Giulia is pretty much dead IMO because if there was any work being done on it surely we would have seen some early development shots/ concepts by now. The 4C has taken 2 years from concept to production, we haven't even seen any initial renderings of the Giulia. That's why I am paying some attention to the rumours because I think they are reviewing the entire product strategy (apart from the 4C and Spider).

Too slow to market and too many rumours - long term Alfa problems. I'd heard some promising stories from an insider about "finished" Giulias being accidentally seen at the factory but that must be almost a year ago so I now doubt here was more than a grain of truth in it. Possibly clay models or such like, not real cars.

This isn't true these days - it's due for 2015, and there's barely any need for public testing, or to a lesser extent, real world testing any more. By way of comparison, what did we see of the new QP and Ghibli before they were close to ready? Not much, IIRC. Recent Fiat Group stuff is meant to have been approximately 24 months from design to production.

Marchionne has sent mixed messages over this. He recently said the Alfa R&D hasn't fully kicked off yet, but he's also said they have everything they need. I don't take the RWD rumour to mean anything at all, but I also don't see solid signs of ongoing development. Don't forget it is meant to be a secret, but there might be nothing behind the curtain right now.

Yes. The basic rule is "take this year, e.g. 2013, and say the number that is the year after next" so this year they are due 2015.

Come back in January for the 2014 edition of this fun family game!

Well, there is that. If you want a sooner test, it's whether they can get the 166 replacement on sale within 2014.

Exactly. If the Giulia was going to be based on the C-Evo platform they ought to have something pretty far into development.

Is that in addition to the frontwheeldrive of the c-evo platform?

If it pushes back to 2016 (and I think it will) then I think we should demand 6-wheel-drive.

You'll get it - but with C shaped wheels.

So that they can keep reminding potential buyers what could be done with the brand if an owner is prepared to commit and invest in a way that Fiat has shown it isn't.

Rubbish. Alfa don't 'do' anything - they leave an empty void that the journalists fill with whatever imaginings they like, and since it's not bad publicity per se, why would Alfa stop it?

A 6C or 169 (4 door salon) may start competing with the new Maserati Ghibli, not sure Fiat will give it the green light.
