One imagines they're unsold stock that have been returned, but LHD to the UK? Seems odd.

There not returned, there new.

I'm not quite sure what the story behind these new 159's is. One reason could be that Alfa, in the last year or so of 159 production, produced a lot more 159's then they could probably sell at the time (although they supposedly only produced 1 day a week). Another reason could be the bankruptcy of the Alfa importer for the Netherlands (who also had dealerships in Germany and Belgium) in 2009. At the time the importer bought a lot more cars from Alfa then they could sell right away, then they had orders for, just to cash in on the discount that Alfa calculated based on the number of cars purchased.

After the bankruptcy more than a thousand 159's where left unsold. I've heard that these 159's where "parked" in the port of Antwerp, not only Alfa's by the way.

Anyway you can still find some new 159's, mostly 2.0 jtd's and Tbi's in Ti spec, with European Dealers (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium).

A new batch also landed in Australia all RHD's. But theres a variety of 3.2 Q4s and a few 2.4 JTDms. As normal a number of TBi's are also still available. Apparently the batch that landed here are all from South Africa.

Saluti, Giordano.
