Help 159 or Mito - advice please!

Looking to trade in my Astra sport hatch for an Alfa at long last! Torn between the Mito and the 159. I know they are quite different animals but just wondering which is the better car and a more 'true' alfa experience! My budget will be about 12K so looking at a 1/3 yr old example.

Seen a 159 Ti that looks mean - the interior looks so comfortable. My partner has two small children so it would be the more practical option. I live down a small lane with a small amount of parking - so that is where my interest in the mito (and exterior styling) is based! If I go for a Mito it would be a veloce and could afford a slightly lower mileage/newer car. I also think if I go for the 159 it would be Diesel and if it was the Mito then a petrol. I about 150-200 miles a week.

I see the running costs/servicing is quite reasonable on the 159

Any comments or advice greatly appreciated - and also any pointers as to what to look out for when buying! Thanks

Easy choice: Do you want a small 2-door hatchback or a medium sized 4-door Saloon?

Buyers advice available in the relevant tech lounges via the forum (or Google) search.

What kind of fuel economy would I be looking at on a 159, either petrol or diesel?

30mpg.

Don't hold your breath for a 159 replacement.

Yup. Lower if you blast it around all the time. (Think 25)

The 2.2 is around the mid 20s. (low twenties when blasting)

I've got both (strictly speaking the MiTo belongs to Mrs RedMatt )

You couldn't really get two cars more different.

159 is a fast motorway bruiser. Comfy seats, loads of presence. Good for long trips. Feels slightly too big for round town.

The MiTo is nice and chuckable, great for whizzing around town, but a bit harsh and 'buzzy' for long motorway journeys.

Horses for courses, and I recommend you test drive both

thanks! Well my 10 mile daily commute is all stop start traffic (hence wanting something nice to sit in!!). Other than that I don't do a lot of driving. I am 6'2" so veering towards the 159 - just wonder if it would be overkill for my needs.

Roughly what does a service cost?

Based on that sort of mileage I really wouldn't recommend a diesel. They need regular long runs, or you could get problems with your DPF pollution filtering gear.

With those mileages you'll struggle to recoup the extra purchase price of a diesel with the fuel savings.

I'm 6 foot 4, and can fit in the MiTo easily. The seat isn't even on the last sliding position
