Lick Brera swap quandary!!!

Here goes

I can swap my 58 plate Brera for a 56 plate Brera for just 1k!

Madness

Mine has 23.5k on it & dodgy paintwork (which is getting rectified in August).

The 56 plate car has just 4k on it and is box fresh, has BOSE, Satnav, CD Changer, sky view, memory seats, vis pack, xenons, in built sim tray for the phone etc.

Like mine, it's a 3.2Q4 and in Red but with ultra mint original paintwork.

Mine has B & M, newer style electric seats & xenons but none of the other toys.

Veloce's will retrofit SV to mine for 400 + VAT & it's something I really want.

It also comes with 12 months warranty whereas mine is up in October.

So, I'm getting 14k for mine where the trade in is c12. The 56 plate car is 15k when it should be c10.5k.

Something about it feels just right

What should I do

Cheers,

Simon

Wot about the belts on the 56 car, will they need doing soon?

The warranty might not be as good as the AR one.

Will the 56 car be the old fashioned 'heavy' version compared to the 08 model year 'lightened' one? (And does it make any difference really?)

It was owned by an old boy & always garaged. Not a mark on it!

No belts on a 3.2. Yes, the newer is allegedly lighter but the 56 car has all the nice alloy dash & door inserts.

It's the immaculate paintwork & sky view that really appeals.....

So I've been flipping back and forth about this - and I don't even have to make the choice! Tough one, but you clearly want the mint one - go with your gut

+1 IMHO

23.5k miles isn't a great deal either. It's not as if what you've got is worn out...

If it 2006 I bet it's got the unfillable fueltank...

It's the SV and the Bose, isn't it.

You've done the Brera. Time for a Masser.....

Hi Si
1k is cheaper than a respray, but I have never bought a car plated on the 1st year built as I like to know they have found the kinks and applied the iron. Having said that Alfa don't seem to give flying f about kinks and just keep building them the same features and all. But that's why I bought an 07 as have had no problems- apart from an ongoing argument with the rubbish and unprofessional stealership (Allams) who sold me the car. But that's another story I'm waiting to tell

As for the SV. For new paint I could live without it. But as it's been garaged and you do like to actually drive yours will it chip and your back to square 1?

Hmmmm. Sounds good but feels like a bit of a backward step. Didn't the early ones have iffy seats (rocking problems IIRC)? Not sure about this - take several drives of that 56 one and see what it is like.

Cheers,

Nigel

Rocking seats should have been fixed.

My '06 was still the most comfortable car I've ever driven.

Zero back ache even on 3 hour non-stop runs. (Compared to the seats in the 159: )

Cheers folks.

The early seats are softer under thigh so probably better for me given my nerve / back problems.

The rocking seats still feature on my 58 plate car but it's due to be fixed. The fuel tank can be replaced if it's an issue.

Overall, it's the paint condition & SV roof that appeal and the car is litterally as new......

Off for a second look & a test drive later

Brera

I was going to ask sensible questions like what will they both be worth, sold privately in a years time?

However, assuming you have no pressing responsibilities and you can afford it, just get the one that will make you happiest. From what you have said, it sounds like it is the earlier car. Will any swap have to wait until your paintwork is sorted out?

Hmm... on the presumption that you'll be wanting a 4C as soon as you can afford it, perhaps go for the one which will have the best trade in value in two years time - which I suspect will be your current '58 plate?

Also, I have always thought the same as MJ re model year - never buy model year 1. I bought year 2 (2007), by which time they seemed to have elminated the early problems - no rocking seat, no squeaky seatbelt, correct power sterring fluid.

Simon really don't know which option but my understanding is that the paint " hardens" over @ 2 - 3 years.
So if the 56 plater is pristine now , with your great TLC it should stay so + it has all the toys you want . You run them on private plates so age is only an issue on selling. is there a tax advantage on the 56 plater, I have got confused ( easily done ) with all the changes ?

Oh ****

Deal done. Drove it, loved it. Sharper steering & brakes than mine with a better gear change

Strangely it didn't feel slower than my AD remapped car either

Loved the interior & the sky view. Satnav is a gimmick but the BOSE sound is cracking. Seats nice too but less sporty than the ones in my newer car, no bad thing given my back!

The exterior paint work is truly glorious. It's like new

They're doing the private plate transfer for me too Should get it on the 12th August

Still feels weird going back almost two years but it feels right overall.
