Help buying an Alfa Romeo

Hi guys

I am in the process of trying to pick up a little runaround in Birmingham. I was quite keen to look for an AR so had a quick look on Autotrader and was suprised to see just how many reasonably priced second hand AR's are for sale.

Which lead me to question, why? Ihave read that there can be issues with suspension and cambelts but exactly how would I go about checking things like this during an inspection - I am not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to cars.

Are there any other things that would be worth checking?

I have read "I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole type comments across the web" and just wanted to gauge whether that was a fair rep? What are your thoughts?

JUst so you know the car I was looking at most recently was an X Reg AR 2.0l Sportswagon Veloce 5dr Estate. 114,000 miles. Think it was about £700 - seem fair?

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the 156 lounge for details. Simple answer is they depreciate rapidly due to the past reputation, which is not warranted for the 156, which is a great car. This makes them good value 2nd hand. It does use a lot of suspension parts though and the cam belts need to be changed at the right intervals. The 156 lounge will have a lot of info for you.

Cheers,

Nigel
