Idea Upgrade your tax disc holder!!!

Apart from dealer stickers in the back window (mine came off about 3 seconds after getting the car home) I really hate those nasty polythene plastic tax disc holders (usually with dealer's name or AA or insurance company advert on it). So if you have got to have a tax disc it may as well look good.

So here is my upgrade with before and after photos.

I bought the holder from here:

Alfa Romeo Anodised Alloy Car Tax Disc Disk Holder S on eBay, also, Alfa Romeo, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 28-Jun-08 20:04:49 BST)

I have no connection with this company.

Re: Upgrade your tax disc holder!!!

C-Cow, I've got the same variety on my Spider, but the damn thing keeps falling off - not sure why; I have it located on the flattest portion of the 'screen, to ensure it gets good adhesion, even cleaned the glass with alcohol before fitting it. What's the secret ?
Does anyone know where to get more of the clear stick-um pads ?

I bought GTLeigh one from Auto Regalia for his birthday and new Brera. We have one of the older designs in each of our cars.

Re: Upgrade your tax disc holder!!!

Is it just me that quite likes the dealer tax disc holder and name on numberplate (not the big sticker across the back).....

My GTV has a cool ramponi (in alfa script) on a black background...I think it looks

Re: Upgrade your tax disc holder!!!

Garwood1 - I only stuck mine on yesterday so I hope it stays there!! I really followed the instructions closely - putting the pads on the holder and leaving them for five mins and then holding it onto the windscreen for 10 mins (boy your arm aches after that). It also suggests sticking it on in the evening and not driving the car until the next day. Try contacting the supplier for more pads?? Hope this helps

I'm with you, I like the original dealer plates but never the sticker in the back window The only time I ever bought I new car I put in a special request for 'no sticker'

Re: Upgrade your tax disc holder!!!

I've got an engraved one, they are a nice touch but for some reason the slit in mine is on the left when its positioned with the Alfa logo upright. It makes it a bit of a fiddle to get the tax disk in and out but you only have to do it once every 6 months or a year.

I found that the tax disk had a habit of working its way out of the holder when both windows were down, so I had to wedge a bit of plastic in the slit.

Re: Upgrade your tax disc holder!!!

Concretecow, looks like you got a good one there. A mate of mine bought me an Alfa tax disc holder for Christmas, it looked identical to yours in the pictures, unfortunately when it came through it was cheap tin and not aluminium as said in the advert. My mate complained and got some money back. I use the holder as it looks ok until you get too close and realise it's cheap. Does the job though.

So to anyone else out there, make sure it's aluminium before you buy off eBay.

JimmerUK - yes it is really good quality hence the recommendation to the supplier - it was 12.99 plus postage but I think it is worth it.

Re: Upgrade your tax disc holder!!!

I'd get one but it's pointless for us over here in the land of the leprechauns seeing as we have to display our insurance disc and NCT disc as well

I thought I'd re awaken this thread, what's the best tax disc holder out their now?

I'd love a dealer one but have my low mileage GT coming from a non Alfa dealer, how about this, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFA-ROMEO...item4d11c46a9f anyone tried it?

thanks,

Tom

That looks pretty good. Personally I avoid metal tax disc holders as I find that they keep coming unstuck from the screen, especially in the sun.

I have the beautiful black, metal holder with the Alfa Logo in black on the back from Alfa Accessories.

I don't like generic stuff from ebay. Its usually cheap and nasty IMO

I have a vinyl one with the alfa logo on the back, cheap, easy to apply and doesn't come off.

The metal ones are cack because if they do stick then you will drop the tiny little screws down the air vents when you go to change the tax disc.

This is, however, very unlikely to happen as within a couple of weeks it will detach itself from the widow and attempt to remove your head from your shoulders

I disagree. Never had any problem.

Their real problem is that it is difficult to clean the inside of the front screen as the holder is 'bonded' to the glass and the usual 'fog' that builds up over time is tricky to remove.

I disagree. If weight was the consideration why not use sticky tape?

The metal holder looks very stylish in my opinion. That's all I am saying. It's not life or death
