Re: Shock at WhatCar - Alfa is best

wait a sec:

So there was an A4 from 2000 - 2005.

Then an A4 from 2005 - 2008.

And now we have a new A4 after three years? Is that right?

Re: Shock at WhatCar - Alfa is best

Think the 05-08 one was kind of like the old one with major plastic surgery, not an all new car.

Re: Shock at WhatCar - Alfa is best

Actually no - the 01-05 (B6) series had the old normal grille

The newer one (B7) has that deep thing that I still haven't gotten used to.

Read the 159 reader reviews - anyone see the one by Kenneth Beattie (31/01/2008)? That was the only bad one I think.

I could never drive a car named after a sheet of paper. How boring is that

Re: Shock at WhatCar - Alfa is best

Everyone knows that an Alfa is the best in its class, thats why there are so many people out there that take a grudge and cut you up, race you, etc. If everybody drove an Alfa imagine how good and safe the roads would be.

It's no surprise that Alfa is at the top, that's where they always should have been.

true.

and his *****ing was mainly related to the lousy service he got after his 159 broke down after 30 miles; granted, not a shining example, but he does not say anything about how the car drove (maybe not surprising after its early failure) but bases his opinion on the car on the dealer response to fixing it. So he tells us nothing about the 159, but a lot about AR's response...

Not forgetting this...

"The car lost complete power on the M8 dropping from 75mph to less than 5 mph in under a second! Mayhem on a 6 lane motorway ensued."

Wow....thats some brakes!!! Even at 5mph I'm sure most drivers could make it to the hard shoulder!?!

Re: Shock at WhatCar - Alfa is best

Although if you compare reader rating of the 159 with the new A4 B8 model it's pretty much even stevens.

A4 B8 link

159 link

Re: Shock at WhatCar - Alfa is best

I almost ranted about autocar a minute ago. I noticed the review of the 159 and thought they had given it 1 out of 5 stars, I then realised I was reading it the wrong way round and it was actually 4 out of 5 stars.

Only five review of the blandest of bland cars with lots of buttons and switches inside.

I've had an A4 and I've test driven A4's recently. I find it highly unlikely that I will ever have an A4 again.

When are you ordering your MJ - you seems to hanker after Audis?

Re: Shock at WhatCar - Alfa is best

Alfa Romeo 159 deserves plaudits, its not perfect but it stacks up well against the opposition (Audi, BM, Lexus) imo. Better to look at, better to be in, better specs for money, relatively exclusive, safe, rigid chassis, 2.2 JTS quick enough, handles well, rides superbly. Improve the build quality and insist on solus Alfa dealers who really care about the marque and Alfa would win new customers and make existing ones loyal to the brand. Cannot believe how manyl bland, boring and dull not so reliable Audis are sold. If you have a reputation for getting up early you can get up at anytime you like!!!

To be honest with you I'd rather have the Jag XF. It not that I can't afford it, but I can't really justify the cost, and it might be a bit too flashy for me. I'd rather pay more of the mortgage off and get a cheaper car. With fuel costs as they are, going up and up, and the new upcoming tax bands, I really should get a more economical car.

I have to admit, the new A4 2.0 TFSI engine looks good on paper at least. I only wish Alfa could get close to that. Head says one thing, heart says another!

Anyway, I've still got a year to decide.

Re: Shock at WhatCar - Alfa is best

New engines coming soon MJ - we'll see them before your years up.

Understand where you're coming from with the XF though; despite the front end it's a lovely car.
