Hmmm 3.2 V6 engine differences???

I've tried searching and couldn't find anything so thought I'd just ask in here.....

What are the differences with a GT 240bhp and GTA 250bhp engine? and any thoughts or opinions on differences with 147/156/GT V6s in general would be appreciated.

Cheers

not alot i wouldn't have thought, 10 bhp could be acheived by timing the cams differently or an ecu re-map....

Re: 3.2 V6 engine differences???

I thought I'd read before sometime that there wasn't actually a difference, just manufacturer quoting lower figures to keep the GTAs ahead......but I've been looking into it and not found anything???

Are the cam locking toiols for doing a belt change the same? As if they are it would suggest the cam profiles are the same. Its probably just down to engine mapping.

No the camlocking tools on GTA engines are different. This suggests a different profile. It could be down to a number of things, induction system, manifold, exhaust backbox, ecu map or a combination of these!

Re: 3.2 V6 engine differences???

I see... I wasn't sure if they were different. I couldn't find the locks listed for the 3.2 GTA and 3.2 GTV to compare.

Thanks.

Have a look at autolusso servicing page. Scroll down to the cambelt picture and its says GTA's need specific tools.

I thought the GT's V6 was the GM unit, but the GTA's have Alfas legendary V6. As far as I'm aware they are totally different engines

Re: 3.2 V6 engine differences???

The same basic engine, but tuned slightly differently.

Dyno figures seem to bear the official figures out, and also the 3.2 GT is half a second slower to 100mph than a GTA.

No, the V6 GT uses the old Arese engine. Only the Brera, Spider, and 159 use the new engine.

Ah right sorry, I though the GT was the first one to get it

Re: 3.2 V6 engine differences???

Indeed it is essentially the same engine. I understood the 240 was just slightly detuned to make it a bit more 'driveable', although how you could call a GTA not very driveable is beyond me .

Re: 3.2 V6 engine differences???

The marketing stuff said that the GT was tuned more for a better spread of torque

Whatever, it's an amazing engine

Re: 3.2 V6 engine differences???

Cam timing changes where peak torque occurs.
For max power you want the timing to cause max torque to be generated higher up the rev range but this will be at the slight expense of low down torque.

For max drivability its convenient if max torque occurs lower down the rev range, but this will be at the slight expense of top-end power.

As TB said, half a second slower to 100mph. Not a massive difference really. The suspension set-up would make a bigger difference to the way they drive IMO.
