bye bye M3

Hi

Well I have just said good bye to my BMW M3 and am taking delivey in about a week of a 159 3.2 V6 Q4. After looking at all the cars on the market the 159 is for people who can think for themselves AND I FEEL THAT IS ME but I would.
I will keep you updated of life with a 159.

Hey there, welcome to the club! Keep up to date with your thoughts, am looking at getting the 159 3.2 and am interested in your thoughts compared to the M3, the "other" option I am looking at!

Despite not being as fast as an M3, the 159 is a thousand times cooler. Enjoy it, and when people call you mad for swapping to the slower and "more unreliable" Italian car, just remind them that speed isn't everything

What these guys said - it's not all about speed.

Good luck with the new car and remember to post pics when you get it.

Welcome.
I think you'll find the Alfa slower & thirstier than the M3, but other than that, better in every way.

ok handling is better on m3, and build quality, and reliability, and materials, etc etc, but at least the alfa doesnt have a bmw badge on it, its the badge that really counts, nothing esle

Re: bye bye M3

yeah thats a good point, alfa wins on price big time.

then again, when you consider depreciation, the alfa is probably more expensive.

You're joking. Have you seen how much an M3 depreciates?

I have a friend who has a 330i M-sport. He went to BMW to trade it in against and M3 3 years after he bought it and basically had to buy half the car again to trade up

He walked away and has now owned it for a number of years and it is very low mileage.

Re: bye bye M3

Hi
Just thought I would let you know, got the loan sorted, took out a GAP insurance on the loan. Pays out the difference between purchase price and what the insurance will pay out if car is stolen or written off I mean if I got £8,000 in 3 years time when it is written off in a crash the GAP insurance will pay the extra £9,000 all for £199 one payment and its all true made double sure when I took it our with the AA loan.

Well - I am seriously considering going the other way from Spider 3.2 V6 to M3, 2007.

I am really tired of all the faults I have had with my Spider and the fuel economy is a joke. It happens that my girlfriend got a M3, Convertible 2007. She loves it! She also likes all the attention she got when driving my Spider. Two M3’s in the family might be one too many.
The Spider is a better looking car. It also a GT that fits my driving style better then a pure sports car.

We are thinking of trading in one of our cars for an estate. Between those two – it is the Spider that has to go...... Need to get an estate that she likes to drive.....then I can take her M3..... time will tell....

Enjoy your 159.....

I made the change from BMW and discovered the ultimate driving machine in the Alfa! Never looked back or regretted it for one moment. Welcome to the club!

Re: bye bye M3

Alfa 159 nicer to be in, safer to be in, nicer to look at inside and out, less expensive, better specs for the money, more exclusive, quick enough and handles superbly. Have not regretted my choice of a 159 2.2JTS since the day I got it, a proper sporty saloon with stunning looks.

Re: bye bye M3

Yup, BMWs are overpriced and underspecced for what you get. And when they go wrong, which they do, they are very expensive to fix. My wife's BMW estate has just had an expensive problem and although I have a non-BMW warranty, it won't cover their 120 quid per hour labour costs. Their "excellent" reputation is unwarranted IMO and boy are they dull to look at. They do have some good engineering but it's not worth the price premium IMO.

Cheers,

Nigel
