Re: if you thought alfa red was expensive.......

Exclusivity 70%

Short run set up and clean down times 10%

Preparing an existing car for bare metal respray 10%

Labour 8%

Paint 2%

....or something like that.

I was told to budget £4-6k for a decent paint job on my Bertie without repairs so I'd say it was not such a high price, especially as they are not really in that business so they aren't desparate for the work.

I thought I'd read you could send your car back to the plant for this repaint job. I may have been wrong about that.

Re: if you thought alfa red was expensive.......

Competizione Red (8C red) is an option taht is priced in Euros which is why the quoted figure varies so much (it works out around £7,000 currently), it's so expensive because all of the body panels have to be sent to the Maserati factory for the paint to be applied, then they have to be returned to the Alfa factory to build the car, then the whole car has to be returned to the Maserati factory for final finishing and polishing.
I've seen it on the Brera S and it is gorgeous and I would have it on the 3.2 Brera S which has the feature stitched leather dash if I could afford to have a real collectors car.

Re: if you thought alfa red was expensive.......

your local bodyshop will do it for £1k, and that includes spraying it on and buffing it up.

I'm sure 8k is nothing to someone who can afford an 8c

Its not for the 8c - its the 8c colour for any other car in the range.

Id do as already mentioned - qucik trip to the local spray shop - much cheaper and if they do a proper job almost as good.

Good to see the Stevie Wonder body shops are still offering their excellent quotes - £1000 and it's 'almost as good'.
Should look fine, might not be quite the same colour in certain light conditions and may not have the same depth of lacquer to protect it but I'm sure you'll feel better knowing you saved £6,000.

Sent to the Maserati factory for paint?

Maserati's and the 8C are painted in Ferrari's plant in Modena!

a 1000 quid job wouldnt be as good for sure- - but i bet a 3k one would be and thats still less than half the price Alfa want..

Re: if you thought alfa red was expensive.......

I don't think any modern Alfa could really justify having £8000 spent just to have it in a different colour. I can see where the money goes so it is justifiable in those terms, but even the most expensive new Alfa (8C excepted) is around the early £30,000 mark so an extra 25% for a paintjob seems excessive.

Doubtful that a bodyshop would do a job to the same standard for much less; a bare metal respray is just that, paint stripped, windows out, engine out, rubber seals taken off etc... all in all a huge amount of work to be done properly.
