Changing numberplates

My current car has a personal plate. I'm hoping to buy a new Alfa soon and I want to transfer the plate to her. I'll probably be in the position of being able to buy the new car before selling the old one.

What do I have to do and what's the sequence of events with the plates?

Thanks!

Re: Changing numberplates

It's fairly easy to switch the number over. Download the appropriate form from the DVLA website and head to your DVLA local office with the relevant docs - V5s, tax discs, MOT certs etc. and the £80 fee and they'll do the necessary. Your old car will get reallocated its original number provided that it is still available. I'm pretty sure you can do it by post as well if your local office isn't actually that 'local'!!!

Then all you've got to do is physically change the plates over and you're sorted. Oh, and don't forget to notify your insurance company, RAC etc. that the car reg has changed...
