Help Help Me!!!!

Hello AO'ers...........

Rally around a forum member and help me out.

I am thinking to P/X my 159 2.4 JTDm SW for something smaller. I have only owned mine for 7 months but there you go - you live and learn

Firstly the car is too big for me to justify driving it all the time on my own day in day out. Also at weekends we are tending to take my wifes Golf now as the childrens car seats are already in place and it is more economical than mine and there is more room in the back for the children -

I can't justify the fuel costs, the insurance, the tyre bills (my own fault on insisting on 19''), the rising car tax ( ) and the servicing costs for this car anymore.

I test drove an Alfa 147 Sport Q2 (150 BHP) and thought it was great just for me but compromised for wife (she hated it) and my children - it is small in the back and the boot is pretty small too. (I have a review posted on this car). Mangoletsi are working hard to get a very good deal on this car (thanks again Kevan).

I have driven a Seat Leon 2.0 TDi FR (170 BHP) and am due another longer test drive today. IT is more roomy than the 147 with a bigger boot, very quick, rode as well if not better than the 147 and will if my sources on SeatCupra.net are to be believed (they all seem like a nice bunch) gets over 40 mpg even with spirited driving. The Seat dealer is offering me a very good deal I have to say. I am test driving the car again today and have a holding deposit on it.

The other option is a 1.9 JTDm 159 saloon - I don't have figures for this yet but I need help from 1.9 drivers - fuel economy please and drivability of this car (I could have remap a possibility via Mangos) etc. etc.

I am looking at reducing my monthly repayments ans still having a fun car for me with family in the car at weekends and for hols. (I have a 15 month old and a 3 year old). I also want reduced running costs. So far one car makes more sense than the other but...........

As I say both the 147 and Leon deals are very good and I am phoning Kevan at Mangos this morning for figures on a 159 1.9 JTDm (he is probably reading this ).

Comments/advice appreciated (and not just with Alfa blinkers on )

Thanks

Leon is a bit dull inside compared to the 159 but compared to the 147 it's almost on a par. More roomy in the back than both Alfas

Seat seats () in the front are sport jobbies - very comfy I have to say as were the ones on the 147 - ones on the 159 not as good.

Re: Help Me!!!!

We have a Leon the older shape as did Nomes - We have the cupra version and it looks good and goes well.

Bits can be expensive but its a comfy car that does what it says on the tin.

As Brick suggested get a GT

Re: Help Me!!!!

Thought about a GT JTDm? Good economy, space in the back and very good value. Also, dare I say it, have you considered a Personal Contract Hire whereby the dealer will give you back what your car is worth and you revert to monthly payments. That way after 2 years or whatever the term of the PCH period is you can move to another make or consider a MiTo! Incidentally it may be worth shopping round for deals, I didn't find Mango (never beaten on price) competitive and ended up going to another dealer.

No to the BM - don't think it is for me. My Mrs says Non to French cars - she was nearly killed in one so that's out

Drove a facelift 156 the other day - wasn't bad but I am struggling to find one at this moment in time locally plus is it too big a step back financially............. Jeez I dunno.............

Re: Help Me!!!!

My guess would be that the 159 won't be much bigger inside than the Leon. The weight and only the 1.9 will make the159 not so much fun.

Repeat after me.............................You don't buy an Alfa with your head.

Get the 147 Sport Q2

if it is the Leon I'll be back to Alfa as soon as the 149 or a 159 twin turbo diesel (ala the SAAB 9-3) becomes available.

Re: Help Me!!!!

Do you actually need a second car at all dpat?

May be best to use the bus for a few months, save some money and then get yourself a car you truly love
