FCA sales down..

“Europe, where the business is in the process of restructuring, fell to a loss of €19m due to a 12 per cent drop in vehicle sales, while its struggling Chinese business saw sales fall by 30 per cent, pushing its Asian region into a loss of €9m.

The group is “moving towards” a restructure of its Chinese arm as well, to counter falling sales as the world’s largest car market witnesses its first slowdown in decades.

Maserati, its luxury brand, saw another slide in sales, with shipments falling by 3,900 to 5,500, with profits down from €86m to €11m.”
According to FT.

A mix of things at play - Chinese market as mentioned, the shift away from diesel in Europe and current lack of alternative for FCA, plus a generally ageing model line-up.

Only the Stelvio and Compass are both new enough and in the right segments to be generating decent sales, but they can't do it on their own - the Giulia as good as it is, isn't in a popular segment, the Jeeps are too average to generate massive volumes and the Levante is over its initial hype. Meanwhile the Fiat line up is either average-performing, ageing, or both. Stopping production of the 124 Spider (for whatever reason that may be) is another own goal given the age/standard of the rest of the Fiat/Abarth line-up.

However, hybrid powertrains are coming, the new (big selling) 500 looks to be on the way (at least in electric form) and the Magnetti Marelli sale should've generated a suitable boost in income to continue investment in new models and powertrains, so they just need to ride out this bump which (ageing model range aside) isn't really of their own making and isn't a unique problem to FCA.
