3 days with a 147!

I have had the 147 for 3 days now. what can i say? Well, i love it!!

The handeling and suspension are so good! it absorbes bumps and damage in the road so i don't bounce and crash everywhere. The handeling is perfect!, no body roll at all, just grip and go!

power seems as good as the 145 but it is a little too easy to bog down at pull away.

only a few complaints:

The gear change is appallingly bad, but i think it just needs a clean up.

The variator is nackered despite the guy at my local specialist saying it didn't need replacing (brand new timing belt so stuck with it for 3 years)

and i think i have a wonky wheel or bearing, should be able to sort out under warrenty.

This weekend i am going to try and get the connect nav+ working, wish me luck.

I will be concluding the 145 saga in the image lounge shortly and a new saga will start for the 147!

Alfa GT 3.2 V6 - Quaife diff, Wizard SS manifolds, Scorpion SS downpipes, Scorption GTA catback, Bilstein b4 Dampers, braided brake lines, MTEC drilled disks, Red Stuff pads.

Good luck with it.: Sounds as if you have some decent roads up there, as opposed to the pot-holed rutted tracks I drove around on today.

Knackered as in diesely all the time, or just at start up?

Variator situation sounds a bit dodgy - you'll be down on power if you're driving it like that for 3 years and won't get the full twin spark experience

Might it be worth kicking up a fuss because it should have been changed...?

Re: 3 days with a 147!

the variator is noisy on startup, but does quiet down after a second. it is worse than the 145 (starting to go) but not as bad as my old punto HGT (lost the VVT in the end).

Still kicks hard at 3.5k so i can live with it.

You never know, if you push for it the variator might get done on warranty too? Its worth asking.

Re: 3 days with a 147!

Had my cambelt changed 3 times in 18000 miles it's a long story!

It snapped at 59K
Variator on way out at 74K so I thought get it all done anyway & replace belt at same time.
Then bugger me at 77K the head gasket goes & I get another new cambelt! Changed the water pump this time as a precaution in case it needs doing at 80K

Must be heading for some sort of record!

Provided it keeps quieting down you'll be fine, but you could lose VVT altogether like in the Punto over time..

i am going to keep fresh oil in it and replace the lot when the VVT goes, or after 3 years, whatever comes first.

Just spent the afternoon tinkering inside the car, love it. Can't get my radio to work though, can only get it to work when the engine is on, then it wipes its memory when i turn off.

radio sounds like your permanent positive and switch positive wires on the radio are the wrong way round. the perm positive connected properly will keep the memory going when the keys are out.
either that or your perm positive wire (or possibly fuse) is shot

Re: 3 days with a 147!

I think the permanant positive wire is shot, but the pre-installed connect nav had power when the engine was off??

I will try and switch the leads and see if that makes a difference.

Cheers efcsted

So you prefer it to the 145 then?

Good luck with the wheel bearing under warranty, I would have thought the garage would try to wriggle out of that as wear and tear though.

If the sat nav also had power when the engine is off then the sat nav has a permanent positive wire the wrong way round as well.
Make sure you test the wires with a multimeter or an old light bulb first to identify the perm and the switch positive!
