first trip abroad! any advice?

hi everyone,

just bought my very first alfa the other week, a 147 1.6ts lusso!

the missus and i have decided to go on a road trip to italy in july to see my family and take a three month break.

can anyone suggest any good places to stop by on the way?
and what do we need to look out for / be aware of while travelling?
ive heard the italian police can be a bit strict!

also im unsure whether to get the cambelt done before we go (has around 13,000 miles left) but would expect to do that over the 3 months. or could get it done in italy?

thanks for any advice!

Try AngloINFO - Everything you need for life in another country...

Each one'll have driving sections
for each country.

e.g.
Driving in France - French Riviera - AngloINFO Riviera (France)

Just have fun 'n' relax.

Re: first trip abroad! any advice?

dont forget to get stuff like a high vis vest, bulb and fuse set, warning triangle, first aid kit, torch and magnetic type GB sticker.

In many european countries the above is mandatory.

Some kind of sat nav unit will make the whole thing more enjoyable, and as someone said take the passes not the tunnels.

You could even take a trip to the ring and then drive down to Italy from there.

But the best thing I could say is just to take it easy and enjoy the drive, no sense in rushing these things.

Good luck

You'll find that the average speed on Motorways is a lot higher than in the UK.

Get the beast cam-belted (tensionered) and serviced before you go. Pay attention to the oil (maybe use a heavier grade than you normally use) and the coolant in particular.
