Let's talk JTDms......

Hei all!

Some of you will know from several threads that I am coming back to the UK. This means new car I now know that I cant have a Brera on the grounds that both my kids have legs , so it will be 159 ti for me .

But the question is 1,9 or 2,4. Heart says 2,4, but is it worth the extra cash?

Anyone driven both in a 159? My local dealer only has the 1,9 (the 2,4 is stoooooooopidly expensive here) so I can't test drive both, so I thought I call on the experiences of my learned friends on AO.

All input gratefully recieved, unless it is along the "buy a petrol" line.....

Cheers
G

Re: Let's talk JTDms......

I have a Brera with a 2.4 JTDm & a GT with a 1.9 JTDm, never driven a 159, but I would have thought that the 1.9 might be underpowered for such a big salloon. The 1.9 in the GT is really good , but when I get in the Brera I can really feel the difference. 150Bhp in the GT, compared to 210 Bhp in the Brera tells it's own story

2.4 is worth the extra outlay IMHO

Especially with a remap....
Absolutely - choose a 1.9 if you want diesel economy, choose a 2.4 if you want a grin when the plant the right foot, choose a remapped 2.4 if you just wanna have fun

Re: Let's talk JTDms......

i've driven both, the 1.9 is a little underpowered for my tastes whereas the 2.4 has some serious clout. i would definitely pay the extra for the bigger engine and nuts to the fuel economy

you also get 2 tailpipes on the 2.4

Re: Let's talk JTDms......

I've got a 1.9 and it pulls really well except for first and second gear, and I'm getting 50 mpg. Never mind about twin pipes, you'll still get people driving towards you with their mouths open. Mind you, my sex life isn't any better but then I have only had it (the car) for two weeks.

Re: Let's talk JTDms......

I had a new 1.9 diesel for a week with only 200 miles on the clock. I was initially disappointed that the car didn't seem to have the sudden surge of torque that I'm used to having driven VW/Audi and BMW diesels for the last 5 years. However, the car was deceptively quick and I found myself doing 85 on the motorway before I knew it.

In addition, I clocked up 800 miles during the week that I had the car and within that time the performance and economy were already improving.

I'm sure that the 2.4 sounds better and the extra tailpipe does improve the look of the car, but perhaps a remapped 1.9 would give you similar performance whilst preserving some of the economy advantage, and at a lower price.

Re: Let's talk JTDms......

Thanks guys. I'm going to get the 2,4 - I think I always was but just wanted hear some opinions

A remap is probably out because it will be a lease car and I don't really give a monkeys chuff about the fuel economy. I'd buy something completely different if I did!

The only remaining question now is the colour

Re: Let's talk JTDms......

Right decision - with the exception of fuel economy the 2.4 is better in every way.

and who cares about fuel economy when it's compared to 400Nm

I'll still drive further and cheaper than in a 3,2 V6 - and be able to pretty much keep up! No brainer.

You're not usually allowed to do any mods to a lease car.

Re: Let's talk JTDms......

But presumably as long as the car can be handed back in the same state as it was accepted then there's no issue

Remap can be flashed at the final service and upgraded sub/amp can be removed and sold on.
