no you need to register the car, either transfer your plate or put it on a retainer then wait for new log book which can take approx 3 weeks , ive been lucky twice and got them back in 7 days ..

Tom. It's easy to do. Visit your local office and they'll do it all for you (except pay the £105)

Does that include to put it on my new car, or is there a £80 fee to put it from retainer to a car

Re: Need some help about changing my personal plate, HELP!!!

The fee is £80 to transf and £25 to retain...£105 includes the £80 so no cost when you put it back on

If you know your selling its best to take the plate off and just retain and get the log book back as people dont want to buy without a log book or want hassle with plates

So yes you can sell the next day but you wont have log book (v5)

best to get plate retained and plates swopped and await log book then sell

They are all correct - I have done the same thing a few months back.

You will be able to sell but the other person cant insure the car as they will not be the registered keeper + most people wont nbuy without your log book being available.

Yep I had this problem when I sold the GTV, get the private plate put on retainer ASAP, go to the DVLA now with your log book. You can't complete the sale of your existing car without the new log book, should take a couple of weeks or so. £105 all in.

Hmm don't think so... except that if he gets any speeding tickets whilst you're still registered owner, you are liable... though I think you could legitimately say in your defence you had sold it and were waiting for DVLA paperwork.

Not sure what you mean... so just to say...

if you have already sent the v5 off and retaining then thats fine if the buyer wants to take the car without log book but date and time the bill of sale as the car is still registerd to you so keep his details so if you get any tickets you can say who was driving.

If you have not done anything yet then once you sell the car with the plate on it will become the new owners and he does not have to give back to you so be carefull
