Speed Cameras on the M4?

Hello all,

On my way between London and Bristol last weekend I noticed around junction 16ish that there are speed camera signs in both directions - but I couldnt' see a single camera and a lot of other drivers were clearly ignoring them... what's the score here?

I used to know the M4 really well when I lived in Bristol but I haven't used it much recently.

Re: Speed Cameras on the M4?

I think they have to legally sign post where cameras 'may' be in operation.

Re: Speed Cameras on the M4?

It so they can put the 'camera-vans' on the bridges and no-one has any come-back, although, the law does state the Police do not have to give you any warning about cameras or patrols other then officers out of uniform have to inform you they are police officers before they can arrest you...

Ah yes this makes sense, the signs were in an area where I remember there are police lay bys and very occasionally police vans.

Good to know.

I think this is the zero tolerance area as well - when the camera's are present.

There was a massive campaign about this a year or so back

Re: Speed Cameras on the M4?

My mate got a fine and 3 points after a van on a bridge snapped him doing 93mph on the M4 Don't remember where exactly though.

It was actually the first time we went from here to go and look at my 156 in Chepstow

I get off at 15 so they never bother me.

There is sometimes one on the small bridge above to tolls on the severn bridge.

Also there are cameras on the magor junction on the bridge

The worst one is the one on the bridge above the M4 leading to the New Severn Bridge tolls, cause its 50 along there, apparently caught a guy doing 95 in his Jag through there the other day

My GPS camera database has a fit there.

Never seen a camera van though.

Re: Speed Cameras on the M4?

Isn't this stretch of the M4 the
one that has speed cameras
due to the large death rate:
Where they counted jumpers
from the bridge that died in
the deathtoll

Its because its the busiest part due to the M5 being close as is Bristol and any Wales to england and england to Wales traffic.

Apparently though, yes, this bit of the M4 is most likly to suffer a 'road death.' Bloody jumpers, go back to the trains

Try our stretch of the M4, there's three camera points within 10 miles and I've seen two in use at once !!!

That thing is there quite regular - cash cow nothing to do with safety.

How many fatalities have there been at the tolls - not including jumpers
