Re: Time Bomb...........

I know the feeling mate, depressing, but it need never be so, if they are fussed a bit. Well I hope not, anyway.:

Re: Time Bomb...........

Just keep that oil topped up and the cambelt changed and you should be fine. Engines very rarely blow up for no reason.

Re: Time Bomb...........

My dads Mazda MX-5 broke down the other day. So no matter what you drive there is always a chance of something going belly up.

My dad had a Volkswagen. He's very careful with cars. The engine blew.

Re: Time Bomb...........

Dont think its an AR fault that caused the engine to "pop". The AR garage reckon debris on road or speed hump may have damaged oil sump, then later its split releasing all the oil at once ,and causing the rods to go through the engine.Incidently oil was changed previous month and belt and kit 3 months before.
However when the new engine was delivered ,the delivery guys dropped the pallet and split the engine. So im still AR less. "Sometimes your lucky"

Re: Time Bomb...........

Thats quite possible. The engine sump is not the best design in the world. There is a metal bracket that passes over the exhaust cut-out in the sump, and this is much lower than the rest of the sump. Usually if it gets hit it breaks the sump.

It should be removed IMO as well as the studs that hold it as it doesn't really do anything.

Re: Time Bomb...........

I do spend far too much time looking at my temperature gauge (even though my thermostat is obviously broken and the temp permanently sits at 75) ... it freaks me out driving other cars that don't have them ...

I know ... just another one of those things to get round to (the car told me the other day that it needed a service in 1000 miles ... will get it done then as I'm obviously too lazy to do it myself!!!)
