The test drive of a lifetime!

I've just driven a GTA for the first time

I went to have a look at a RX-8 as mentioned in the other thread and there was a fella there aready looking at it. He himself had a 147 GTA that he was looking to trade in so I took it for a test drive whilst he checked over the RX-8. All I can say is unbelievable!!!!! It did actually frighten me a little bit when I first booted it lol! My foot was hanging over the clutch in a scared manor for a few minutes! Just one more bit...the sound...I've never experienced anything like it in a car before. Anyway had to leave as he's not decided if he's buying the RX-8 as yet so the GTA may not be available. Will find out in the next hour or two

What a car. Downside is it didn't have leather interior which surprised me as I've never seen a GTA without it before and although it is red which is my first choice it's faded a little. Is this common place? It's 5 years old by the way

If the car is good then you can get the seats re-covered and maybe a good detail will get the colour back up.

A GTA without leather?

But anyway, how good is the noise?

The acceleration is pretty sweet too.

I know it was a very odd sight seeing it without leather

The noise is unreal. I wanted to find a tunnel. Not many of those in Nottingham unfortunately

It felt like a kick up the arse when I put my foot down...and I was nervously holding back a little

A 147GTA is way more practical than an
RX-8.

I'd rather have the GTA than the RX-8.

Re: The test drive of a lifetime!

Well I'm awaiting a call back from the dealer to see if there's a deal to be done. I've got one to go and see in Derby tomorrow too so all is not lost

Still might test drive an RX-8 just to compare though

I've had an RX8 before and it doesn' t compare to the gta, lovely to drive, although to impractcal - especially with a dog!!

just remember not to pump the throttle before starting it.

Re: The test drive of a lifetime!

I owned an RX8 - super handling car but acceleration never felt that special.....quick yes but nothing sensational.

Reckon 30-70 my GT would match the RX8

Re: The test drive of a lifetime!

GTA vs RX8? absolutely no contest whatsoever. and i'm saying that having never driven a GTA in anything other than 1st and 2nd gear!! i've driven my mate's (230bhp) RX8 a few times and as mentioned above it's quick but sorely lacking that something special. the GTA had that something even at 20mph. should be the easiest decision of your life, and not many cars make a GTA look economical either

Re: The test drive of a lifetime!

Interesting thread...I have got to test drive one now ....been thinking about the GTA for a while, despite the dreaded petrol increases. You only live once and a Fezza is a bit of a reach too far right now

Re: The test drive of a lifetime!

My GTA doen't have leather... in Italy the cotton seats stay nice and cool in the Summer... and they grip better in the corners too

I raced an RX-8 once. It had better traction off the line but once you're up and running the 147 kills it..

Actually in 2nd and 3rd you can annoy new Porsches too(not just Boxters....)

I wish that was something we had to think about in the UK

The non-leather seats did look and feel nice to be honest but it still surprised me to see one without. Not sure how I feel about it still

Great to hear you enjoyed the test drive in the GTA

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago

Cheers Bigfoot. Only downside is I want to get a new car today but I know I must be patient with this one

Re: The test drive of a lifetime!

147GTAs - and the 156GTAs - are epic pieces of kit.

When you turn the key, the engine noise just wafts through the cabin, and as you pull away gently, the deep and smooth engine note leaves you in doubt that you're controlling a power-plant with first class breeding. That engine has more culture than some people, lol.
