insurance 3rd party claim question.

I am relying on a cheque from my insurance company to cover some of the costs of upgrading to a 147. The cheque covers effectivly half of the cost of the car. My soliciter, while making the offer, assured me that i would not be asked to produce a reciept of repair for the 3rd party insurance company. To which i replied "good, i might not get the car fixed straight away as i am very busy at the moment".

I am wondering, when i recieve the cheque and pay it into my account, are the 3rd party insurance company likely to turn around and ask for a reciept for the repair? if i can't produce one because i have sold the car, what can i do?

if i know 100% what is going on then i will be able to get the car with a clear head (effectivly this purchase is to replace a damaged car so the insurance money should be valid?).

i don't want to buy the car then have the 3rd party turn round and ask for the money back.

Alfa GT 3.2 V6 - Quaife diff, Wizard SS manifolds, Scorpion SS downpipes, Scorption GTA catback, Bilstein b4 Dampers, braided brake lines, MTEC drilled disks, Red Stuff pads.

I don't think they will ask for a receipt. The money is yours through no fault of your own. It's up to you how you spend it. Buy with a clear conscience. Enjoy

As far as I'd be concerned you're in the clear. If they wanted to stipulate that it must be repaired they'd be doing the repair themselves rather than give you a cheque.

Have had queries in the past on a household policy where I wanted to upgrade a stolen camera but they were insistent on a like for like replacement and wouldn't give me the money.

I don't think they'll ask for a receipt. And even if they do, your local bodyshop will probably give you one for a tenner.

you can spend the money however you like. they're paying for the damage, not the repair.
