Re: Black plates

Yes.They are legal on pre 1973 cars. They won't pass an MOT and you are liable to points and a fine if stopped by the police. Look cool though.

Re: Black plates

Cars registered before 1 January 1973 can use silver on black or white on black number plates. Cars registered after this date must use black on white plates at the front and black on yellow plates at the rear

Ahhh I didnít realise it was the cars registration date that mattered I assumed it was just an old private plate.

Re: Black plates

I had some on my GT, but was warned by a traffic cop in the town that if he saw me again with them he would throw the book at me...i promptly removed them, it was good whilst it lasted.

Re: Black plates

Pet hate of mine! Fine if it's an Army plate (on an S3 Landie!) or GBG car, but otherwise a massive no-no in my book. There's a black 156 in Crawley, blackout glass, subwoofer pounding, and black'n'silver plates. the guy might aswell have a light on the roof saying "nick me".

People know the rules... pre 1973 can have them, post 01.01.1973 can't. Simple.

Re: Black plates

Saw a shiny black Range Rover sport with black plates on in London the other day. Looked quite cool, but illegal all the same
