Re: Whatever happened to the 157 & 158?

i belive 159 was car Fangio raced in way back when the world was all black and white... basically 157 158 don't have any historical value.

I may be way off re: the fangio bit so don't quote me.

Re: Whatever happened to the 157 & 158?

Well they wanted to bring model names back into line, so they couldn't use 7, as the 147 had already used that.
Why they didn't use 8 I don't know.

Basically they messed up all their model numbering with the 145/146.

Re: Whatever happened to the 157 & 158?

It was a design cost thing

It was easier just to invert the 6 rather than make some new numbers

Re: Whatever happened to the 157 & 158?

158 was also a racing tipo.'s

15 hundred cc 8 cylinders - 158.

159 was a development of this.

So I dont know!

Re: Whatever happened to the 157 & 158?

I always thought it was a bit of a daft numbering scheme anyway, so it's probably a good thing if they go back to names - provided they check with people in each region tell them if their prospective names are daft first!

They'll probably run a competition to find a name. Thousands of people will vote on one, and then Alfa will say they don't like the chosen name and call it something else.... oh hang on, they've done that already!!!

Re: Whatever happened to the 157 & 158?

I thought it all sprang from the 75 which was produced to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the marque. It was replaced by the 155 which was effectively doubled the number, the 156 then replaced that. The 159 is , I assume, to remind us of the great racing car of that name.

Hate to break it to you but 75 x 2 does not = 155.

Thanks, I sort of guessed that ! However I remember at the time they couldn't or didn't want to use "150" !

Re: Whatever happened to the 157 & 158?

The 164 came way before the 155 though - and I always thought that started the naming process.
