Petrol Panic Buying?

Just wondered, whats the petrol situation like in your area?.
We should be OK in the North West with the Stanlow refinery on our doorstep but yet with panic buying that could change quickly.

Re: Petrol Panic Buying?

Got my petrol ration coupons from the seventies on standby, but guess they are no longer valid??: I finally threw the ones away I had from the Suez crisis in the fifties, as they were rather faded!

I am sure they would have been worth a bit of money there ZF, money you could use towards the hyper-inflated prices of petrol that is supposed to be around the corner

Re: Petrol Panic Buying?

Thankfully we are not required to do that much motoring nowadays.: Bus stop close by, with a regular ten minute service, weekdays. Main line station into the metropolis, just a ten minute walk away. So motoring is very much a mechanical hobby thing up to a point, with the odd trip out, and a few weekends away sometimes.:

Doubt I'll need to flap much, this time around.: Saints preserve us, the seventies shortage was a real pain, but the fifties rationing was far worse, i.e. 1/2 gallon, for a 250cc Beesa', per week??? Tough, and ran out a few times, ending up pushing it home.

Re: Petrol Panic Buying?

I don't know. I haven't been near a petrol station for about two weeks.

The reason for that?
BECAUSE I DON'T NEED ANY PETROL YET!

(Note: Shouting not aimed at original poster, shouting aimed at the numpties CAUSING a fuel shortage when there's actually plenty by refilling their car every time the needle strays from full)

Re: Petrol Panic Buying?

Thats why its called 'panic' buying Bazza. "Man are smart, but, Men are stupid" is the quote. Some says fuel shortage and people panic, buy more fuel, causing prices to rise.

I filled up two weeks ago and won't need fuel for two weeks... I am not panicing

Re: Petrol Panic Buying?

I live in Central Scotland, 10 miles from the refinary thats out on strike, you have to sympathise with the workers as apparently the company they work for basically raped their pension fund.

I've seen a few people getting silly at the pumps but nothing major, I think the further north it goes the worse it gets.

What I find interesting is that Scotland for a while now has craved it's independance, now i for one have been reasonably happy with the union BUT now it looks like the North Sea pipeline pumps a third of the UK oil every day, 50million pounds worth of revenue could be lost dailly as a result of this strike.... second thoughts on Independance for me and why not

I guess that thought is sure to provoke a little reaction, it's not meant to, most of my good friends live in england and are english.

Oh and I think we give water too hehe

Re: Petrol Panic Buying?

I'm certainly not likely to be panicking either for obvious explained reasons?: But, with China/India coming on stream, and a general downturn in the Western economies forecast, looks as if more belt tightening will be required in the future, or at least more deep pockets to be able afford the stuff?:

We have just returned to Warrington after a week in Northumberland and they were panic buying in Hexham yesterday. We filled up on the A69 yesterday without any difficulty.

That's right, we are in the green belt, water and trees all around, but close enough to the Big City, for her heartfelt desires. I love my bike, just need new lungs and a new heart I guess, to get me a' going again?

At the moment in inverness several garages out of diesel, mostly due to delivery companies filling up at every opportunity
some stations rationing to a max of £15 per customer, prices up couple of pence a litre
stuck in a tenner got 9 litres thatll do me the week.
That oily **** salmond has just been on the news telling us everythings ok,so it must be!

Re: Petrol Panic Buying?

I went to the local Asda in Bolton yesterday to fill up with diesel and the first pump had an out of order sign. I moved to the next one and that was the same then I noticed all the diesel pumps were locked up! Unleaded was still flowing though. Its probably just a technical fault but it did have me worried for a minute as the limited range warning had come on. I ended up going to the next BP and getting robbed at 119.9 p per litre !!!

Theres two garages near me - one has inflated its prices to £1.29 a litre, the other has a £15 fuel restriction per car.

I hope you filled up at Rheged Sharon - I did! £1.07 a litre. That's at least 5p a litre cheaper than our local stations.

No problems here although Tesco was full this morning. I filled up though which should last a couple of weeks.
