Good news for the marque. Now bring on RWD!

I think that this link is self-explanatory. The "we're going gardening" comment during Q1 last year by a very senior person in Alfa now makes sense. The weeding has been done, it seems. Now it's time to sow some decent seeds!

"19% in the first quarter of 2008"

Not bad since the factory was closed for nearly all the first quarter....!

I wonder the next quarter will be like??

What;'s that rise in real figures though? I mean, a 100% increase could just be selling 100 cars instead of 50!

Quite frankly

In these days of greater competition and with all the bad press th emodel line up has had - upwards is a good direction to be heading in...

lets hope this continues with the new models... if it does you might see me back in one before long...

This link has been posted in other marques but it is very good and mentions several Alfa things

They have delayed the 149 to make it better and is the "best thing they've ever done"

Re: Good news for the marque. Now bring on RWD!

Do we really need RWD, at least in all models? I think it's something that we all obssess about but is probably meaningless to 99.9% of the potential market. Even the majority of so-called petrolheads probably couldn't tell the difference - I know I can't. We have a RWD (BMW) and a FWD car (GTA) and my front wheel drive car, even without the Q2, handles much better. With the Q2, I really can't see what the issue is. I accept that the halo models have to be RWD just to please the experts, but is this really key to Alfa's future success? Surely stylish, agile and high performing sports saloons/coupes is what Alfa's all about? Who cares if they are FWD or RWD, provided they drive and handle well?

Cheers,

Nigel

I think that a top end saloon has to be rwd. If you look at all of the competition they are, and a rwd coupe would appeal too. I'd be interested to see what happens with Jaguar floorpans/chassis now Tata own them. Mr Tata is on the Fiat board + Jaguar need to make money + Mr M wants a big rwd Alfa = happy days and arse out handling

Not all - Audi have to be seen as the main competitor or certainly close to and they're front or four wheel drive. Also Honda's new accord seems to be aimed squarely at the A4 and its front as well.

The A8 is the exception rather than the rule. And it sells in such small numbers, it hardly registers at any more than a blip on the sales figures.

Also, it's not going to be aimed at the A4 as the 159 is in that sector. It will be aimed more at the A6/Merc E class instead
