THE car to beat Darling

I've been thinking of the best car you can get which tells Darling where to stick it. So it needs to be ludicrously 'gas-guzzling', but registered in 2000, so you can drive past the Houses of Parliament flicking the V's at him and his immoral, dishonest re-banding.

Something like this should do the job very nicely:
Autotrader - LOTUS ESPRIT 3.5 V8 GT Twin Turbo

I've got just the thing for the job - a 1973 E type V12 that gets about 12-14 mpg... and £0 tax per year!!!

Re: THE car to beat Darling

I'd happily strap Darling to the front of any car and use it to beat him against a wall. Not least because I've just found out how much the Brera will cost to tax! Per annum, it's only going to do a third of the miles the Polo does, yet every six months it'll cost me three times as much to tax.

I said earlier this week that the Government seems to relish new ways to punish your life, rather than helping to make it that bit better.

Tesco could do a better of understanding what the people want, and delivering it.

Seems likely that he's shafting Darling, after all - he's shafting the rest of us.

Re: THE car to beat Darling

I enjoy nothing more than going to work in my modest 1.6 TS, knowing that I am just about to jump into a Tornado, light the fires, engage reheat and burn 30 Gallons a second, Now where's the tax disc holder on those then?

Oh and that's an '84 model.

between us boss...i think we can agree that Darling 'deserves' it

you see, had he ever driven a nice car, a car that shows what a wonderful product can be achieved when people put their hearts and pride into things, there would be no way he'd punish and penalise people for having a lovely car.

Re: THE car to beat Darling

Do you honestly think that by buying an ancient gas guzzler they're actually going to worry?

They'll soon just change the laws so that you DO get taxed. Hard.

And if they don't do it then Camerons lot will when they get into power.

Re: THE car to beat Darling

No, I don't honestly believe that HST.
It wasn't a serious thread.
I apologise unreservedly for my unwarranted joviality.

(Word to the wise: I don't think Happyman was serious about buying it and inserting it into Darlings bottom either, you might want to pull him up on that too)

Re: THE car to beat Darling

Do hybrids have low car tax as
well as being exempt from the
congestion charge?

If so, and I lived in the UK,
I'd get one of these just to make a point:

Ford Vehicles: 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

34MPG wooo-hooo! Beats the Brera!

I've thought of a word to the wise too, but the mods would pull me up on it, so i'll keep it to myself

If you can't come up with a response to a light-hearted thread which isn't going to get you castigated by the mods, then maybe you should have a think about what that says.

Re: THE car to beat Darling

Come on people. No-one fancy a daydreaming trawl through autotrader for a nice alternative method to saving money on the road tax? (Alternative to getting a moped-engined shopping trolley for a car that is)
There were some interesting looking 360 Modenas on there, but I thought I'd try to keep it somewhere close to the realms of the possible.

How about this one:
Autotrader - ASTON MARTIN DB7 V12 Vantage

Yeah, I know, I just failed miserably at the keeping it believable thing.
