TUT Dummest a-o of the Day!

Ehem. What does one do when one can't find the special sockets for one's special 'locking' wheel bolts (the ones that dont' have a simple hexagonal head) ???
Yeh, somehow some IDIOT has seperated 'em from their parent!
Is there a prize?!?

Got a set of those head grabbers, but they tend to chew a bit! 17.5,18.5,21.5,26.0. shifts 'em.

Re: Dummest a-o of the Day!

you hammer a socket on. they're designed to make it slightly more difficult to remove the wheels, but not impossible. even the mcgard style bolts can be removed.

if you have the code you can get a replacement easily enough.

Re: Dummest a-o of the Day!

This is the GTV, the one where there's hardly space for a biro inside! Even so I can't imagine how I thought it was a good idea to take them out of the car, .... or have they hidden themselves in some box destined for the tip as stow-aways!
Been hiding in a new job - a more challenging one with less time to idle away sadly for my alter-ego.

Ouch, I've been wondering lately how much you actually need them in this day and age, you don't really hear of people having their alloys nicked do you?

Re: Dummest a-o of the Day!

Went to a quiz night not long back, where a young lady had her four alloys swiped on her brand new motor!: Reckon they used those bolt head grabbers I referred to, I guess? If they want your wheels, they'll go for them, thievin' Gits!

Re: Dummest a-o of the Day!

Hammer a socket on is about the only option, The head grabber type ZF mentioned wont fit in a GTV wheel. I've done them on a GTV, I seem to remember I used a bi hexagon imperial socket and hammered it on fitted to a short extension. Luckily they came off fairly easily. Best of luck with it.

Re: Dummest a-o of the Day!

I've never used them myself. The reason I have them is because my son-in-law collected his X type from up country, with the guys assurance the wheel bolt keys were in the toolkit. They weren't!: So he bought that kit, hoping I would find time to try them, but he got impatient and went to the local Jaguar agent who sorted them for him. So the kit has never been used! I would of probably wasted a socket myself.:

you live in halifax and so i can see why you would think that, but i promise you the real world is still out there and its still a nasty place to be. alloys and stereos are stolen regularly where i live, they even take the spare out the boot, and if you've got a nice exhaust they'll have that too.

the first time you leave your headunit's face on, is the last time you'll ever see it.

thanks to immobs fewer cars get stolen and burnt out, but stealing from cars is just as easy and just as common as it was in the 80s.

Re: Dummest a-o of the Day!

Depressing but true. I'm still in denial, hunting mindlessly from dawn-dusk in the refuse collection department (garage). I wonder how long it will be before some of the blasted detritis from those ghastly flail mowers shreds my tyres - that's make my day!
