Where do I place my order, if they produce this it will outsell the Mx5 by 10 to 1

Re: New Duetto

I don't believe it.

Even if they did build it it would steal customers from the Spider.

Ask yourself, faced with the choice of a £30k Spider and a £20k Duetto which would you go for.........?

Just build the bloody thing I say, lets have a full successful range of modern cars and get back where we belong - the top. I know, men in white coats breaking down the door as I type.

Re: New Duetto

there's more chance of them re-releasing the 156.

notice the use of the word "would" instead of "will".

Re: New Duetto

Front-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive?

Please don't tell me that Alfa have missed the boat AGAIN..

It looks gorgeous, but the MX-5 is one of the most fun cars I have ever drove, I don't think Mazda will be very worried if Alfa release another soft-top hatchback. The previous Spider looks ten times better than an MX-5 but it didn't stop every hairdresser in the country from going out and buying one.

The second picture looks gorgeous, like a mini-8C, not sure about it in the first picture though, looks like it has Bangle-esque flame-surfacing on the doors..

Re: New Duetto

There's a ready market for an MX5 priced roadster. I don't think it would take sales from the Spider when there's a 10k differential. After all, BMW 3's and 5's get very close/overlap on prices at each, ditto Freelanders and Disco's etc etc.

I agree that the picture looks a bit false and I'm not totally convinced about the front end treatment around the lower grilles and headlights but I do like the concept.

Priced like an MX5, with decent handling, modest performance and heaps of Italian flair it would fly out of the showrooms.

Re: New Duetto

Priced around the MX5 mark it will sell by the bucket load - if only Fiat had made a right hand drive Barchetta

Very nicely done though. I want one.

It's been posted before, but as Jamie Porter points out in his Alfa Romeo Duetto page, Fiat seem to know how to tap the retro market as shown by teh 500 so with this marketting genius now heading AR, I'd say that they'd be mad not to do the Duetto.

They did look awesome didn't they, but I'd not buy a left-hooker when theres such a good alternative like the MX-5.

I haven't driven the MX-5 mk III but I and II were really brilliant for thrashing about

It didn't breakdown, it ran out of fuel.

Re: New Duetto

First impression was Wow, second impression was that the headlights were Boxtser-esque, and the side being 'a bit flat', third look, OK, with some beef in the engine yes.. Fourth, I bet it would look much better in the flesh.. Would be on a shortlist me thinks!

Cheers

Re: New Duetto

Correct answer.

Dodgy fuel gauge gave a false reading.

A borrowed 147 did exactly the same thing (though just on the way to school). It's good to see all that Alfa Romeo history alive and well in its modern cars.

Re: New Duetto

Also from what Frank Stephesnson was saying, he doesnt like the Alfa grille, he considers it limiting to the cars design, so any new Alfa from now on may not have the famous Alfa grille.

The 159 replacement will be getting the 8C treatment in the front, same shape lights and grille and also the rounded rear lights

I wont believe that until I see something official from Fiat. Im doubtful because the Spider will be leading Alfas break back in to the USA in '09 - Would seem daft to discontinue the product/name after only 2 years.

Totally agree, I cant see the Brera or spider being dicontinued so soon after entering the US market.

i dont believe it either, but i also dont believe alfa will be returning to the US any time soon, even with maserati's infrastucture to take advantage of.
