I was thinking the other day ...

... that in years to come, the GT will be viewed on a par with or as a replacement for the Bertie.

What do you reckon ????

Yes, just what you say. I was too young (and too poor) to have Bertie first time around and definitely see the Gt as it's natural successor.

I've never seen them together but I'm sure if we did there would be a natural visual blood-line evident.

Cobblers.

The GT is a modern day Alfasud Sprint.
The Brera is a modern day Montreal.
The Bertie is irreplaceable.

Here you go, from an Alfa driving day a few months ago - my Bertie was lost next to a modern GT !

Borrocks

The 8C is the modern Montreal. The Brera is just not rare enough.
The Bertie will be replaced, suspend your emotions for a while Rick,
it's going to happen in much the same way as the Giulia range
replaced the Giuliettas. The Giulietta has become even more rare and
so will the Bertie leaving the GT to fill the gap as a more affordable
classic. I wasn't trying to belittle your beloved there matey just
pointing out a natural progression. Absolutely nothing at all to do
with which wheels are being driven

(Through gritted teeth.......).....

What he said.

The Montreal was rare one-off, the 8C is a rare one-off.

The bertie was a mass produced semi-exotic 4 seater coupe: The GT is a mass produced semi exotic 4 seater coupe.

Rick's analogy with the Sud Sprint holds some water but it is of a different generation whose styling was more angular. Spiritually the GT fits with the Bertie for their two respective generations.

Note to one's self: " make purchase of a Bertie priority before expiring this earth....."

I see where you're coming from, but wasn't the Montreal a series production car?

@jamieboy, If we're not careful, we're going to end up splitting hairs here.

My original thought was more a gut feel rather than an idea supported by fact.

Yes, based on the 105 (Bertie!) running gear in response to popular demand from the concept car. It's nothing like an 8c - that's more of your 33 Stradale type going on. i.e. a hypercar with nothing else to do with the rest of the range. I see the Brera and Montreal in the same vein as big bruiser Grand Tourers. Stylish, fast, luxourious and not entirely practical.

Point taken, but I think differentiating between "rare one-off" and "series production car" isn't exactly splitting hairs.

I think Rick has it much closer with the 33 Stradale : 8C, and Montreal : Brera

My thinking too.... but look at lineage here:
159 , 156, 155, 75 (arguably), 116 Giulietta, Alfetta (maybe not), Berlina, Giulia, Giulietta.

The GT is a mix of the 147 and 156, so I am thinking:

147, 145, 33, Sud/ Sprint.....period.

Re: I was thinking the other day ...

In which case I guess the 8C is more comparable with the SZ / RZ as a limited production run. The Stradale numbers are a bit too low to make it comparable with anything else. But we're really going to get quite pedantic if we follow this tack

I still think, in my heart, that the GT will, in twenty years or so, be the car that is sought after like the Bertie is today. And that really is a gut feel rather than based on any facts and figures. And I doubt it will have anything to do with lineage but more to do with individual hearts

Hmmm, I see what you mean...But still closer in conception to the 8C. I mean they are both limited production run, ex concept exotica with little in common with the general production models of their respective eras.

The whole argument is pretty subjective anyway...Interesting though,
