New alfas accoring to 4car

don't know if there's anything we didn't already know here but nicely summarised.

Re: New alfas accoring to 4car

From the article:

"It will also signal a new direction in its interior design by moving away from the retro-look, deep-set instrument cowls. Baravalle says the interiors will still be sporty but in a more open, welcoming way"

Suppose it depends on taste but the deep-set instrument cowls are one of my favorite parts of the interior giving alfa's a much more uniqe look then the typical Golf or Focus interior. I do hope 'more open' doesn't mean more golf or focus-like.

the last time Alfa went for an 'open' look, the GTV ended up with most of its facia in the middle of the dash. Of course, it was press-panned for the ergonomic mess that it was...until the new MINI came along, when suddenly it was 'really cool'. Hmmm...

I like the look of Alfa interiors - gives them that retro yet stylish look.

Golf is bland with a cap B

Re: New alfas accoring to 4car

I agree - i like the cowled instruments

However, the 149 seems very interesting; especially as this article says its only 3 months behind the junior

(Just so long as that means the Junior isn't coming out in 2010 )

Does an "open look" mean that the passenger will be able to see what all your dials are saying?
Thats what I like about the GTV dash - all driver orientated nobody else can see them

Yeah, can't be doing with the passenger seeing the speedo.

Perhaps Alfa thinks it needs to change cos it's being copied by the new Vectra

The 'Racer' version sounds like an interesting alternative to the Abarth Punto, which also puts out 180bhp but with a 1.4 turbo. Guess it will depend if you prefer turbos or n.a.

Re: New alfas accoring to 4car

What do they mean by "In 2010 there'll be a proper Alfa Romeo crossover car, based on the 149 platform"?

That's only going to be a year after the 149 launch, surely they're not planning to have two Alfas competing for the same slice of the market?

I dont understand why alfa are going against all the little design touches they've had over the years, its usually been the reason why people think so much of the cars. Do alfa think that we drive their cars because of their superiour build and comfort? cps we dont.

Bring back the cowls and hidden rear door handles alfa. Dont be stupid, dont do what BMW did and turn away from what they stood for.

+1 on the ugly vauxhall... it reminds me of a Toyota from a few years back... thank the lord there are so many ugly cars around, they make the Alfa's even more beautiful than they already are.

Well, I think that as long as they can come up with other inventive stuff it should be fine. Because let's be honest, every 'modern' car these days is using the cowls setup, or using the hidden rear door handles.
Let them come up with something new so that the rest can go and copy them again

Hmm, can't tell what the exterior of the car will look like because the prototype is so thoroughly disguised as a boring ugly grey Toyota Camry or Corolla. Once they take all that disguise away I'm sure the world will be stunned by the Vectra's daring beauty and exciting new design ideas.

Yep I agree with Padders, this is a nice piece but the info is well out of date, best not relied on. Is Baravelle even with Alfa these days?

Sorry chaps, I may not have been clear enough re the new Vectra/Insignia. I was just referring to the bit that said:

"Look closely and you can just make out the screen for the integrated sat-nav. Also visible are its classy Alfa Romeo-inspired instruments, with each of the four dials set in its very own chrome cowling. "

So new Vectra will have them, but new Alfa may not

I know. And they look terrible too, sticking far out of the dash all chopped off at funny angles and not looking as though they belong with the rest of the styling in any way.

Baravalle now works for a publishing company in Italy. Alfa is headed up by Luca de Meo now.
