what's that silly black bit on the door?

just as the door slopes down to meet the bonnet on the front doors. There's that little black plastic bump thing. Always wondered what it's there for.

Does anyone know?

Think this was asked on another thread.Apparently it helps with the airflow around the window somehow. An alternative suggestion was that it showed you where to attach the ribbon if you were chauffering at a wedding

Are you talking about the guides to ensure the windows seat in the frames?

Thats what they are, if you were to break tem off, you would find that at speed the window would not go into the header but end up uotside the car.

(having had a car with 1 snapped off!

Funny you should say that "An alternative suggestion was that it showed you where to attach the ribbon if you were chauffering at a wedding"

I used them as guides for that reason last weekend as my sisters wedding.

She went in a anice Merc, but I took bridesmades in my White Alfa.
Pitures to come when they are aproved

Re: what's that silly black bit on the door?

they are spoilers. they spoil the flow of air to decrease the lift acting on the side of the car. that improves stability at speed, it also reduces wind noise and also reduces the suck effect on the glass that lift would normally act on the glass, especially when it is slightly open.

If that's made up then it ingenious.
If that's true it's ludicrous
