Kwik Fit did a half decent job ......

..... on my wife's Ciroen picasso. Full service for £140 - not bad. He seemed to know what he was doing too - I had to wait for some of the time & saw him cleaning breaks etc (he spent a good couple of hours on the car) & the car feels a little 'tighter' now. All in all I'm pretty pleased. Whilst not being too fussy over the Citroen, the question is ...... do I trust them with my gtv?

Must have been an eager apprentice who hasn't been fully taught in the ways of being a Kwik-fit fitter.....

I would never entrust any car with them, bad experince with them a few years back and family are the same.

Re: Kwik Fit did a half decent job ......

I think the main issue with places like quick-fit and others alike, is that you have to find the decent staff who work there, the ones that started the job because they love cars. But the reason why they will have such a bad reputation is because they dont pay there employees a decent wage, hence they cant find trained staff and people who are actually good at there job. I work for a retailer which has the exact same setup and there are a few really really good people, who are experts in there field and what are they paid : national minimum wage. As the saying goes, ' Pay peanuts, get monkeys'

Re: Kwik Fit did a half decent job ......

what exactly did they do for £140? usually they check your oil, decide it isnt lumpy enough to change, and then adjust your driver's seat for that authentic "worked on" feeling.

did they try to upsell? often you get the old "ooh those brakes are gone, you'll need new discs and pads, luckily we can do you a good deal, the whole lot for £900, thats half price just for you."

Re: Kwik Fit did a half decent job ......

Dunno about servicing, but I've always found Kwik Fit incredibly slow and expensive for tyres. They tried to sell me some unheard of brand for my GTV 17" rims, just £145 a go, and we can do it for you right now if you leave the car with us for 4 hours!

Independent round the corner sold me Pirellis for £90 each including fitting, done in about 25 mins.

In my experience that makes Kwik fit a bunch of c*nts...

No i wouldn't trust them with my Gtv, or anything else for that matter.
"Fast fit" operation's like K.F, ATS etc staff generaly don't employ genuine qualified staff due to the low wage's they pay, so you get the semi skilled fitter's , and drop out's from better garages who can't make the grade in general.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Re: Kwik Fit did a half decent job ......

I took my mini into Kwik-fit to get them to Kwit-Fit some new brake pads as they were grinding very badly.
I walked the 40mins to leave them to it. They were busy and I wasn't needing the car.
Just as I got in the door they called me back saying that I didn't need new brake pads and it was probably a loose stone trapped between the pads. Then on the drive home I lost brakes momentarily as the worn to the metal pad fell out of the calliper.
Avoided Kwik-Fit ever since.

Re: Kwik Fit did a half decent job ......

I must say ive never had a bad experience with them . i called into my local one , being cheeky i wanted them just to stick the car up on the ramp so i could fit the fog lights to my Zender bumper ,has to be done from below , no front access . They said no problem , 10 mins later , job done , just gave the guy a drink and off i went . I dont deal with them for anything else tho , too pricey .

Years back our local Kwik Fit had a good guy - I took my car in after it had failed MOT on track rod ends. He took them off checked them, cleaned them up put them back on (No charge!)and sent me back to the MOT station - Passed Ok.

Needless to say he did not last long! - I hope he found a job at a decent garage.

I would never, ever use kwik fit; it's just too much risk that they don't do a job properly, and over charge you for the privilege.

Re: Kwik Fit did a half decent job ......

Wouldn't trust any of these McDonalds type garages again. I used a Nationwide Autocentre for a service because they were cheap, the air filter was screwed up like an old newspaper and shoved in the airbox. Unsurprisingly enough it let a load of leaves and fluff up into the MAF, the oil filter wasn't changed and I haven't checked but I doubt very much the pollen filters were done.

I learnt the hard way, won't be taking the Alfa or girlie's Polo back to a Nationwide/ Kwik Fit/ mass market cheap 'n' cheeful garage again.

Re: Kwik Fit did a half decent job ......

I had one 'experience' with KwikFit many moons ago. At the time I had a Scimitar 3ltr twin stainless steel exhausts. We were about to go on holiday and I noticed that the left hand manifold downpipe had a slight leak. Not wanting to crawl under at the start of the holiday I took it to KwikFit to get them to tighten the joint. After inspecting it he told me that I needed a new exhaust due to small holes in the front and rear silencers on both exhausts. I asked to see the problem and sure enough the holes were there....drainage holes for condensation in the silencer boxes! The guy was trying it on so I thought lets get something out of this and played dumb. I told him I needed the car that day so could he just tighten up the gasket and then order me in a brand new top of the range custom stainless system at some ridiculous price. He thought he hit the jackpot. In fact he was so pleased he re-did the gasket for me FOC. I told him I would be back in two days to get my new exhaust fitted, thanked him for his help, and drove of with a smile on my face. I would NEVER set foot in one of their places again!

Yeah that's an awesome price - I recently got four Pirelli P zero rossos 225/40/18 for £480 and I thought that was a good price!

Defo, trouble is Alfas can be quirky things. Better to have someone that knows their foibles, might cost a bit more taking it to an alfa independant but they will know your car specifically rather than how to do a service on a car.

Nah, nothing to do with Alfas, Kwik Fit are just as capable of doing a shoddy job on Vauxhalls, Fords, Citroens, Peugeots..... to name a few that I have been too intimately aware of

Re: Kwik Fit did a half decent job ......

Local quick service tyre/exhaust place around me were reversing a corsa onto the ramp (with a broken exhaust), the exhaust caught on the floor and jacked up the back of the car, causing god knows what damage underneath, and leaving a kink in the bumper. They just moved forward, then reversed it onto the ramp...don't think the owner ever saw that....
