Which engine are you thinking about Stacey - there are numerous 1.9 and 2.4 JTD variants.

Re: 156 jtd buying advise

Hi Stacy, I have a 156 2.4 JTD for sale at the moment, its in very good condition and well looked after. The list of parts that I've replaced are all common wear & tear issues:

Which reminds me, I must advertise mine!!!

Stacy, The 2.4 engine is a peach. There were 136, 140 & 150 bhp versions. Weak points are few and far between, a test drive, general visual inspection & a service history count for a lot. They really do fly... 45mpg(ish), very tuneable (if that's your thing) with very few downsides.

I'm only selling mine as I need something bigger & newer for work (as I'm now doing anywhere between 600 & 1000 miles/week).

Happy hunting!

......and 175 bhp versions, but I think they are all post facelift. Post facelift 156's are the best built, probably the most reliable and definately the quickest if you can stretch that far.

Its pretty good on fuel, if you're on a motorway run you can expect 42mpg.. I did a couple of tanks in the summer just driving around York when I wasn't doing any motorway miles and consumption was around 35mpg, but then I did use the power the remap gave me. I generally don't drive slow but I am careful with the cars, as in always letting them get up to temperature, oil/filter change every 7K..

They take high miles fine, I'd say the JTD is the engine best suited to high miles, but then it is a common fact that diesel engines do tend to outlast petrol engines. There's no reason why the car wouldn't get to 200K miles in my opinion, there's a guy on here who has clocked about 270K on the original engine. Belts are all done, no worries there until 2011 or 170K miles.. Wishbones have been recently replaced, brakes recently replaced, clutch recently replaced, radiator and thermostat recently replaced.. It has had most stuff done now that it should be able to do its next 20-30K only needing regular oil and filter changes. I'd just recommend carrying on with changing it every 7K like I have been doing, and all should be well. As my grandad always says, oil is cheaper than engines.

There's a fella coming for a look on the 23rd Feb, but he's not left a deposit or anything so its still for sale, in case you are interested
