Crash Testing

Just out of interest:
Dose anyone know if the 916 GTV/Spider was crash tested? And if so what were the results.

Re: Crash Testing

It was definitely crash tested but if you are talking about NCAP then no, likelihood is it wasn't. They choose their victims on the basis of number sold/likely to be sold and it probably didn't qualify.

Re: Crash Testing

based on the 147's NCAP result, and the test that ADAC (i think) did on the 156, I'd expect the result to be poor.

Re: Crash Testing

yeah going by the 147 and 156 and brava i'd expect the result to be poor, especially for the driver. its probably best if you dont crash.

Re: Crash Testing

A high score in NCAP just means the car is better at passing the test, not that it's any safer in real life.

For instance, if the test was "Drop a 10kg weight onto the driver's head", all cars would have a thick roof above the driver's head. Doesn't make it safer when you get thumped up the rear by a speeding Merc' Sprinter van.

the whole point of their tests are that they replicate the most common type of impacts you will experience in the real world, so passing the test = safer on the road, thats the whole point.

Re: Crash Testing

Safety regulations have developed over the years, not least in the fact that some 40 years ago there were none! NCAP/ENCAP has become pretty comprehensive. Its the main reason the cars you buy just refuse to get any lighter, cost less or use less fuel.

Re: Crash Testing

safety tests are often misleading, for example the european helmet tests have several tests including the drop test where a weight is dropped onto the helmet, the piercing test where a sharp spike is blasted into the helmet and an abrasion test... these tests are done in the same spot on each helmet as they are brought in for testsing so the chinese who manufacture dangerously cheap helmets simply reinforce the areas that they know are tested and get a gold sticker to show that they conform to the highest european safety tests ...disgusting !
