Alfa 156 GTA Sportwagon, yes or no?

Hi chaps,

I've currently got a 2001 156 Sportwagon with 120K miles on the clock and so far has been virtually faultless.

Sooner or later i'm going to need to change it and other than splash out on the new Junior or a secondhand GT, I still really love the 156 GTA Sportwagon!

But would I really be making a mistake seeing as my mileage is around 20K per annum?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I think you'd be better off with a remapped 156 2.4 JTDm if you're doing that sort of mileage.

you can look to get around 23mpg overall. Maybe a few more since I assume you do a lot of motorway miles.
I'd love to recommend the GTA SW to you (it's blooming fantastic) but it'll be hellishly expensive for you.

I somehow thought that might be the case!

I do about 6-8K a year if you had that sort of mileage it'd be a no brainer.

Not for 20K a year, fuel will cost WAY too much, unless you get it LPG'd in which case you're gonna lose about 20BHP top-end anyway, and be in the performance leagues of a tastily-remapped 156 2.4 JTDm..

I think I'd go for the JTDm myself, it'll be cheaper, so you can afford some little extras like a brake/suspension upgrade to make it handle and stop as well as a GTA.

GTA every time - the fuel costs are a small price to pay.

One of the most legendary engines of all time - or a diesel. It's up to you

Re: Alfa 156 GTA Sportwagon, yes or no?

Fuel will be expensive; but, if you can afford it, and you fancy the motor, why not?

Mileage will of course depend if you have a foot of lead or not, and what type of roads you're driving on. My V6 GTV is returning 27 on motorway runs (sticking within the speed limit that is!), but struggling for mid teens in town.

The insurance and servicing won't come cheap either, so it's not just the fuel to think about... just sit down and carefully work out the annual running costs before you hand over the folding!

I'm with Ecurie and Cup 75 here. Aren't Alfa's supposed to be a matter of the heart?

GTA... lpg would save you some £ (if that's a part of the equation).
