147 for the Wife?

Hello, it is late the wife is in bed so here goes. She currently drives an MGF, great fun, been reliable to date but now have an addition to the family. I am trying to seize the day and convince her a 5 door 147 is the key the the future. Whilst on this forum I know I am preaching to the converted, but is this a good choice? She likes driving my SW, and was thinking of a 1.6 147 type effort, budget around 4000. Really I just want to see two Bella's on the drive!!1.
Is it going to cost me a fortune to run both of them? MPG?
2. Which spec to go for?
3. Is the 1.6 adequate, whilst being OK insurance-wise? She is old now (36) but only has three years no claims.
Cheers........?

I'd go for Series 2, 1.6TS in Alfa Red on 17" rims. Looks sensational and the 147 drives really well. Ride is much better than motoring mags would lead you to believe.

Re: 147 for the Wife?

I doubt if you'd get a series 2 for 4 grand. I have an 02 2 litre it isn't the cheapest car to run but I still love it. The 1.6 & diesel versions would no doubt be cheaper to run. Never driven the series 2 but I gather the suspension is more forgiving than what I have got. Admit my kids moan about the ride with the 17" alloys on. They prefer the family car (Seat Altea) but it's not an Alfa!! If I were you for 4K I'd be looking at a series 1 with standard alloys not 17" & either a 1.6 or a diesel. Alternatively you can buy my 2.0 for 4K & I'll go shopping for a GT

Driving frugally I 'can get around 30 mpg on the trip computer, roughlly 350 miles to a tank of fuel.
